File Name: localDriver

File Category: Tools

LocalDriver is a tool which grabs the NIC, Audio or Video driver from the user's PC and generates a WinBuilder script which can be added to WinBuilder projects.
During build installs that script the grabbed driver into the PE.

The advantage compared with DriverPacks: When you only have some systems where you want to use the built PE, this method needs much less PE space and much less build and boot time.

The advantage compared with hostAUD / hostNIC / hostVID: You do not need RAM boot to have a writable running PE.

The .zip contains also the latest version of reg2WBSprg.exe which is needed by localDriver.exe.

Currently localDriver works with NIC, audio and video drivers.

When somebody has a driver which does not run on your PE:
  • Try with the XP track of multiPE
  • If the issue still exists, post your *.inf.

Does your reference to NIC include wireless NIC?
Version 2 can also do video drivers. Does the program check the device group and will abort, when i try to use it with, for instance, a audio driver?

I do not know. I have no wireless and cannot test.
Try whether wireless NIC is shown in the devices scroll box.
If not, send me a *.reg of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServices<your driver>
and a *.reg of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetEnumPCI

The type of the driver (currently Audio, NIC, Video) is defined in a scroll box, and the localHost program only offers only devices of this typ.

BTW: Some drivers, e.g. Intel Video, have hardcoded "C:Windows" in the registry and I'm currently converting to booting PE values.
