You have deleted (or it cannot anyway be found) the grub4dos file "menu.lst".

 

You should READ some basic info on grub4dos IF you are going to introduce ANY, even tiny, variations to an automated method:

Well then you should have Unchecked - Add EFI Boot Manager (you don't need that for Win8)

and you don't add pmagic folder to MULTI_BOOT ....

 

Remove the EFI folder on FAT32 USB Boot Drive and Run UEFI_MULTI.exe again will fix your problem.

I've remove the EFI folder on FAT32 USB Boot Drive and Run UEFI_MULTI.exe again , but the result is exactly the same. The problem was not fixed.

 

When restart computer , also the PartedMagic pop up only , no Win8x64 to choose !!

I want to know which files or setting in charge of the UEFI boot , is it :

 

1.   EFI\Boot\grub.cfg                    (how to edit it)

2.   EFI\Microsoft\Boot\BCD          (how to edit it)

 

Which of the above file should I modify to make it boot UEFI Win8x64 only.

7. In EFI partition (F:) , files and folders are :

If you remove folder EFI and then run UEFI_MULTI.exe then you should have only file bootx64.efi of Windows 8 in folder EFI\Boot

What is origin of the other files in EFI\Boot folder ? They are not part of UEFI_MULTI 

 

You can edit grub.cfg using notepad, but that file should not be there if you have Unchecked "Add EFI Boot Manager".

 

Something strange is going on  .....Check also the content of the folder MULTI_BOOT that is added.

 

I would go for a complete fresh start if I were you .....and make use of fresh extracted UEFI_MULTI folder.

 

 

I see now the ERROR that you have made ....

 

Recent version pmagic_2013_02_28.iso contains EFI folder which is the origin of your problem.

That EFI folder is NOT present in previous versions of pmagic that I used .......

 

You were asked to copy only pmagic folder to UEFI_MULTI folder,

but instead you copied the whole content of the ISO to the UEFI_MULTI folder,

so that you introduce the extra EFI folder .....

I've tried the new fresh install of EFI and Win8 To Go 3 times already. But with the same mistake !!

 

Sir, my aim is , in MBR , boot Win8x64 with iso (Start GRUB4DOS)

                         in UEFI , boot UEFI Win8x64 ONLY  (no PartedMagic , Linux ....)

 

If we look at the procedure from another point of view , can we change the procedure ? Can we not to use UEFI_MULTI_74.

 

As after installing the Fat32 EFI and Win8 To Go , I can boot Win8 in either MBR or UEFI mode. And of course in UEFI mode , there's not choice when boot , it goes to Win8x64 directly only.

 

So what I want now is actually add a "Start GRUB4DOS" in MBR Win8x64 bootmenu , so when boot with MBR Win8x64 , it should be like this :

 

      Windows 8

      Start GRUB4DOS

 

That's all , if I can add this "Start GRUB4DOS" , then everything is finished for me . And keep the UEFI Win8x64 boot untouched.

 

The point is how can I add this "Start GRUB4DOS". I found that everytime after executing "UEFI_MULTI_74" , and check it with :

 

     bcdedit.exe /store F:\Boot\BCD /enum all                               (F: = EFI partition)

 

There's one more boot item added :

Yes , UEFI_MULTI made it "default" , but how can I use bcdedit to make it default ?

But still can't set to default. Would you mind to tell how to set it to default ? How to modify my setting below to make it work :

So how can I make exactly like UEFI_MULTI_74.

This will set your Grub4dos entry default when the {guid} is given by {cf01c27f-a06d-11e2-bf17-00160194fae8}

 

Hope this helps, but best help was given already by proposing to use fresh UEFI_MULTI  and first format your USB Boot Drive with FAT32

You need to get rid of the old stuff causing confusion ....

Since you don't want pmagic Or Recovery boot.wim then In your case you should skip step 5 so that MULTI_BOOT folder is not copied to USB Boot Drive.

I choose "Start GRUB4DOS" , then an error message come out :

For my computer configured in UEFI Secure boot mode,  I found a way to boot it from USB-stick with Grub4dos Menu

 

For this purpose I make use of key F12 that is normally used for PXE boot from Network.

 

I have now the following sequence:

 

UEFI Secure boot > press F12 at first beep > UEFI firmware reboots > second beep and booting into BIOS compatible mode from next device e.g. my USB-Stick with Grub4dos Menu

 

When I press again F12 at the second beep then I get PXE Boot ROM and can boot from Network or press Esc to boot Next device e.g. USB-Stick with Grub4dos Menu.

Next device booting in BIOS compatible mode can be USB-Stick or portable USB-Harddisk or second internal Harddisk depending on BIOS Boot sequence settings.

When pressing F8 at second beep then I get BIOS Boot Menu that allows me to select next device for booting into BIOS mode.

 

In this way I can for my computer configured for UEFI Secure Boot:

- boot XP or Grub4dos from second internal harddisk

- boot Grub4dos Menu on USB-Stick or portable USB-harddisk

The reboot of UEFI Firmware by pressing F12 is warm and almost not noticeable and simply allows to boot next device in BIOS compatible mode     

 

UEFI > F12 > BIOS > auto next device e.g. USB-Stick with Grub4dos Menu or XP

UEFI > F12 > BIOS > F8 ==> Bios Boot Menu select next device

UEFI > F12 > BIOS > F12 ==> PXE Boot from Network

UEFI > F8 ==> UEFI Boot Menu

Hello,

anybody can help me fix my existing Windows 8.1 installation?

It seems that while playing with EasyBCD I have screwed my WIn8.1 preinstalled environment.

The situation is this:

When I turn off UEFI mode in BIOS, I can boot into external g4d drive, but I can't boot into Windows 8.1 at all, moreover that internal GPT drive is from grub4dos commandline even not visible.

When I turn on UEFI in BIOS, all my existing bootable drives including bootCDs are skipped and Win8 bootloader is taking the control, however I land in the graphical Win8 boot menu offering Windows 7, EFI USB, EFI ODD and yet something I forgot what is. No choice for repair however.

So now I need firstly revert Win 8 to bootable state, then secondly configure things so that I can (optionally if present) boot into grub4dos external drive and at the same time multiboot Win 7/Win 8 (handled by Windows boot menu) without having to switch between UEFI/non-UEFI modes in BIOS. Thanks for any advices.

select as Boot Drive your USB-Stick

select as System Drive your internal harddisk with Windows 8.1 installation

 

Start computer in UEFI mode and boot from USB-Stick.

If Stick is not auto selected then you can use F8 Menu to select your Stick.

In Boot Manager menu you will be able to select and boot Windows 8.1 on internal harddisk.

 

This is the first step and report if you get this working.

Everything At Once

Windows 8 came on computer with UEFI firmware and GPT partitioning of the internal harddisk.
On trying to boot with my existing USB-harddisk Or CD / DVD then initially Everything Failed.
UEFI does not like Grub4dos and so all boot Images failed. The boot CD's were not compatible with UEFI.

It was time to redesign USB Multiboot.

On computer with UEFI firmware I can Install Windows 8 on normal USB-harddisk having MBR and three primary partitions.
The first Boot partition E: is FAT32 Win8 Format and contains the EFI folder
and the second partition M: is NTFS with Windows 8 System Installed by using WinNTSetup2.
GPT partitioning is not needed and unwanted because it would only boot on UEFI firmware.

Install of Win 8 on USB using UEFI computer and latest beta version of WinNTSetup2 is OK
Did not use any other tool. Boot and EFI folder are created on FAT32 Boot partition.

and with Grub4dos using all kind of Image files (Linux Parted Magic + LiveXP + 7PE + Portable XP + Win7)

Some Mobo e.g. Gigabyte GA-Z77MX-D3H allow to use F12 Boot Menu
and Select either BIOS or UEFI booting from USB-harddisk.

In my case BIOS Grub4dos booting Image files on UEFI computer is only possible
after switching in UEFI the Advanced OS setting from Win8 to Win7 / Other
For booting Windows 8 then the UEFI Advanced OS setting Win8 is used.

So now really Everything At Once is working.

I use UEFI Multi Boot to prepare USB stick with Windows and Linux live cd's. My problem is to find grubx64.efi menu entries to boot the live cd's.

The only working entry is for Parted magic. I found some entries for Bitdefender, Avira... but all of them don't work in grubx64.efi, only in Grub2.

Can anybody help to change the Grub2 entries to work with grubx64.efi?

I use UEFI Multi Boot to prepare USB stick with Windows and Linux live cd's. My problem is to find grubx64.efi menu entries to boot the live cd's.

In case of Fedora-18 then the solution is to specify the partition name, in my case by using root=live:LABEL=2_BOOT
