Hi to ALL especially to karyonix..

I was able to boot an XP to 5 different specs of "MoBo" by using the "Firadisk".
But only to one board I encountered a problem.

Here's what I did...

I formatted and partitioned (C: & D:) the 60gig SATA hard Disk
(Fujitsu..salvaged form old laptop)..
then I installed (fresh/clean) XPROSP2 OS to Drive C: (active of course)..
(I didn't installed any HW driver except the LAN)
then installed the ImDisk..reboot.. and
then installed the Firadisk using the 3rd method (right click the .inf)..then reboot.,
then installed an ANTIVIRUS "SAV" (Symantec)...

Then I reboot the machine and booted to LiveXP (using BooSDI.img)..
and run the "CCleaner v2.21" using the "RunScanner" for remote cleanup
of drive C: (which has newly installed XPROSP2 OS).
I also removed some of the "Startup" process, except for the SAV

Then rebooted again to drive C:, (I mean the normal windows installation),
to see to it that it works OK.

then rebooted again to LiveXP (using BooSDI.img), and in drive D: I created a folder named "Test image", and copied the ff. contents of drive C:,
to this folder "Test image".

* Documents and Settings
* Program Files
* Windows
* boot.ini
* NTDETECT.com
* ntldr

Then from this folder "Test image", I removed some unwanted folders and files as mention in this
thread http://www.boot-land...?showtopic=9328 post#4&6.

After removing...

Rebooted again to drive C: (in normal windows installation), and mounted the ready-made disk image from
here http://www.mediafire...eady_images.zip
From this thread http://www.boot-land...?showtopic=8804 Post#7.

(I used the Imdisk in mounting the ready-made 1.3gb image.
Just right click the image and select "Mount as Imdisk virtual disk"
(from popu menu) I mounted as Drive F:\
!!Rmemeber.. I installed Imdisk!! as described aboved.

And copied the whole contents in created folder "Test image"
to the mounted disk image.

still booted in normal windows mode....I run the "UltimateDefrag 1.72" and executed the 2 features..
"Fragmented files only" and "Consolidate". (one at a time)

!!!!Note: only the mounted image drive F: was defraged!!!!!!

Then after defragging..I right-click the drive F: and select
"Save disk contents as image file" from popup menu..then wait (of course)..he..he.

I saved the image as "Test.img" in root of drive C:
I put the "grldr" and "menu.lst" and edited the boot.ini in drive C:

My menu.lst is..

title Test.img
map --mem (hd0,0)/Test.img (hd0)
map --hook
chainloader (hd0,0)/ntldr

Then rebooted the machine...well as expected, it works.
So I transfer the Hard Disk to other machine and booted from it.. again it works!!

Its really GREAT!!!! BIG THANKS to karyonix :w00t:

But every time I booted to other machine with different "MoBo" specs..it ask
for the firadisk driver. So what I did was point to Firadisk folder and it will installed, and asking for a reboot. But I didn't reboot...what I did was this..

While I was booted from this "Test.image" mode, in the Explorer my drives was

Drive C:
Drive D:
Drive E: (CDRom Drive)
Drive F: (the Test.image) where I booted from.

I just righ-click the Drive F: and select "Save disk contents as image file"
(from popup menu)
!!Rmemeber.. I installed Imdisk!! as described aboved,(included in the image)
I saved the image in drive C: overwriting the existing one, the "Test.img". The
one I saved from 1st machine where I booted.

Then rebooted the machine (the 2nd machine). It works again as expected,
this time...no more asking for the firadisk driver.

I did these process of re-imaging every time I transfered the Hard Disk
to other machine with different MoBO specs., up to the 4th machine.
Until the 5th one was not.
Although it successfully booted but only up to the portion of asking
the "Processor driver" dialogue windows, the machine will hang.
Keyboard & mouse was not functioning anymore.

My small question is...

What shall/would I do to overcome this problem.. (asking the Firadisk driver)
every time I booted my Hard Drive with this image "Test.img" to other machine...

I didn't try editing the registry hive for I don't know how or what to edit.

BTW. The 2 MoBo's (Mother Board) specs is "Asus" VIA chipset. Booted Ok...
The other 2 MoBo's is "Asrock" ALI chipset. Booted Ok...
The one that partially booted, (asking for Intel Processor driver)
is Asrock dual core with VIA chipset.

SORRY for my LOOOOOOONG Blah..blah.. for I just want it to clarify the
details of my probz. So that the Board will not (especially Jaclaz..Hi Sir! just kidding) say... :)
My/our Crystal Ball was under repair!!!. He...He... :cheers:

ANY help from somebody (out there)? :cheers:

Ariom

P.S. How I LOOOOOVE this little GEM (Firadisk). With this method,
I can Removed the Virus infected machine using this SAV.
Although it booted a little longer compaired to w/o the SAV
included in the image.

I know it's not the best way of doing this...but it's
the only way AFAIK.

Try change in the system hive "ControlSet001\services\intelppm" key "Start" value from 1 to 3.

Thank you for your kind interest :), though it is unfortunately a workaround only :w00t: (not needing to use it).
I payed a lot of money for that crystal ball and am paying another awful lot for tuning and maintenance and the stoopid thingy still completely refuses to let me see vital things like Disk Signature, Registry hives and the like on other people machines. :w00t:

And now, for no apparent reason, an image of a cute cat:

Thanks Guys..

@jaclaz

Sorry I didn't included that. It was because I did not edit anything in the registry,
only those folders and files were removed as mention in the given post.
It's a fresh installation without tweaks or whatsoever.

And THANKS anyway for your time in answering my post... :cheers:

@karyonix

I'll try your advised then..

And THANKS in advance then.

I'll post back if I made it right...maybe tomorrow..It's 8.03 evening now here in P.I. :)

Ariom

BTW, what about the "CurrentControlSet", Should I edit it too?

@karyonix

I tried your advised..

I edited both the "CurrentControlSet" and the "ControlSet001", it works..
but I think it is not that MoBo problem. Because if I replaced the other Hard Disk (The IDE one) with another Hard Disk, it ask again for "firadisk driver". The SATA drive is still the same, ( the one that I booted from where I placed the image).

Anyway thanks,, I'll try to figure it out myself.

@jaclaz

I ponder your Nice Pic. and it really hurts me a bit..then
With all due respect, as (you) one of the senior here..
I didn't post it "Just to Amuse Anybody"
I just make it of how or what I did just to express about my problems.

For I know that my KNOWLEDGE is just like an "Atom at the Top of the ICEBERG.."
And You're ONE of the big part of that ICEBERG.

THANKS anyway then...

Ariom: Perhaps jaclaz really meant "for no apparent reason" in his post regarding the picture of the cat. It might really just be a funny picture where the cat is saying the once-common English expression "We are not amused."

Anyway, I find it handy to include a BOOT.INI file on my RAM disk images as per http://www.etherboot...t_winnt_sanboot This allows me to choose the appropriate HAL and kernel for my hardware platform. Using the wrong HAL can lead to problems, even if the computer appears to boot to a login screen or desktop.

I also use a batch file to kill the Found New Hardware Wizard, thus allowing for all devices with matching .INF files to be installed without waiting for user input. Thus you avoid a catch-22 where:
  • You need keyboard/mouse to close Found New Hardware Wizard
  • You need to close Found New Hardware Wizard for keyboard/mouse to be installed

My batch file uses cmdow.exe and goes:
@echo off

echo.

echo ENDLESS LOOP TO KILL "Found New Hardware Wizard"

echo.

echo You will have to close this window manually.

:_start

cmdow "Files Needed" /end > nul 2>&1

cmdow "Found New Hardware Wizard" /end > nul 2>&1

goto _start

Rest assured, from time to time I post images of cute cats for really NO apparent reason, if not a bit of fun (rule #12).
