Dear All,

Today, I've found a website that some user names and passwords to login our Boot-land.net without registering.
I've know this site sometime ago but not interested.
But this time, it seems to related to Community Forum and I think it is breaching our regulations as well.
So I am sure that I need to report to our members.
I tried to use names and passwords to log in our site.
Some are not working but some are still working.
See below:

Please think about who is hacking or breaking or sharing.

Yep, thanks :(, but it is known.

It has even the "blessing" by Nuno (not mine, though it can be useful from time to time, as an example when the board registering page goes beserk):

From time to time the little §@ç#ers overdo it and I delete all bugmenot accounts but one or two, just for the fun of making them try a few invalid logins  so that next time they may consider actually registering to the board.

I mean till they just come in and leech files it's allright, when they ask for help by posting, it may not:

Though there are decent guys among them too:
http://www.boot-land...?...c=7187&st=2
that only use the account for an emergency or while the registering is fixed.

I see it's time to clean a bit the mess again.....

We already know bugmenot for some time.

Unlike the vast majority of forums around the web, we actually recommend that people use bugmenot in alternative to register just for the sake of registering and grab files - downloading attachments is not directly available to guests only with the intention of avoiding leech.

This is the text on top of our registration page:

If you're registering because you want to grab files then there is no need to create a new account as you can visit the bugmenot site to use some of the accounts already made before.

Otherwise, if you are serious about becoming a worthy member of our community then you're kindly invited to write a few lines about yourself at the "Hello World" forum section after completing this registration page.

http://www.boot-land.net/register/

We don't control what people put on bugmenot, so what you see there will depend directly from the responsibility of those who share their details but we do like to keep open as many communication channels as possible.

Just wanted to chime in saying that I like the fact that Nuno publicly accepts bugmenot. After all, that site's intentions are neither evil, nor do they have a negative impact on non-commercial forums. That being said, my account is also from bugmenot. I used it because the registration process was botched (none of my email-addresses were accepted and other error messages). Thanks to bugmenot I could join this nice forum. I changed the email, username and the password and made the account my own. I don't see a point in deleting these accounts unless they're being used for harmful activities, but in the end, someone who wanted to harm the site could just register himself and do the evil deed.

If you also want to change the displayed name let me know.

I'm a bugmenot fan and I don't like ghost accounts from people that only register to grab some files and never return. Our goal around here is to few but good members than thousands and no fun.

Welcome to Boot Land!

Thanks for the kind offer ;) I already changed the display name. The bugmenot one was "nanaga". If you could change the login name to "xiaopang" that would be great, but no biggie if that's not possible. It's already a big plus that boot-land.net allows me to change the display name myself. I wouldn't have minded using the bugmenot name. After all, I'm here because of the information and not to show off a name

I understand where you're coming from regarding the ghost accounts. I was also an admin once and hated it if people just registered without returning. So I think it's a great idea to re-use them. After all, it keeps the database from filling up with useless accounts...at least somewhat.

Done!

people just registered without returning

Very true. We're going through a spring clean up around the forums and if you have any ideas about what can be improved don't be afraid to start a new topic proposing changes.

Tense has already done this today:

Hope to see you more often around the community!
