i have a problem...i install windows xp to my eee 900 from usb-flashdisk w/o problems but when i restart and took out the usb-drive laptop doesn't start anymore...just show that NTLDR is missing

PS. I install the XP to bigger 16 Gb HD and the 4 Gb is empty.
How i can fix this problem?

EDIT:and the boot.ini file in the C:/ (BIOS DRIVE) looks like this:

[Boot Loader]
timeout=30
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\="Tunnistamaton käyttöjärjestelmä asemassa C."
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="USB Repair NOT to Start Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Probably you were to early in removing your USB-stick
so that binifix4.cmd could NOT do its job to make a correct boot.ini
You should keep your USB-stick plugged in UNTIL the Windows Desktop Appears and is Ready.

But now you can edit manually boot.ini yourselves with Notepad (remove first the Read Only Property).
Make rdisk(0) for the lines to launch WINDOWS and for Default
and keep rdisk(1) for USB Repair option.

Try this First and then most likely the lines with partition(4) and C:\ can be removed.
I don't know how they came in your boot.ini but it is up to you to decicide about that.

[Boot Loader]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\="Tunnistamaton käyttöjärjestelmä asemassa C."
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="USB Repair NOT to Start Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Is that correct?

In picture you can see how it's work...

The C: is the dios drive
G: is with Windows XP install (16 Gb HD)
E: is empty (4Gb)
D: usb-disk with installation pack Windows XP
F: SD slot for MC - disable

I put this

[Boot Loader]
timeout=30
Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS
[Operating Systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
C:\="Tunnistamaton käyttöjärjestelmä asemassa C."
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="USB Repair NOT to Start Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

But it still show that NTLDR is missing after remove the usb-drive and reboot :whistling:

I understand that you can boot into Windows when USB-stick is connected
and that the sreenshot you presented corresponds to this way of booting.

To solve your problem:
Can you provide also screenshots of your G: and D: directory
and give the boot.ini on these drives.
And a ScreenShot of Disk Manager

I am not familiar with the ASUS Eee disk geometry,
so may be someone else can help as well.

Did you try both Windows Boot entries ?

when usb-stick is connected i must press "Esc" and choise the stick from menu (where is HD and USB-stick)
and then it show up the menu like this:

1. Begin TXT Mode Setup Windows XP, Never unplug USB-Drive Until Logon
2. and 3. Continue with GUI Mode Setup Windows XP + Start XP from HD 1
Continue GUI Setup + Start XP from HD 2, use if installing on HD2.
4. Start GRUB4DOS Menu - DOS FPY IMAGES + Linux - XP Rec Cons + Vista
Attended Setup XP,Never unplug USB-drive Until After Logon

when i'm choise the second one by "enter" and windows run as well...that is only metod to start XP now

ANY way you can boot with Windows, we only have to make it boot via your Harddisk.

After booting with Windows Open Disk Manager and make a ScreenShot.

I need for Drive G: a similar view as for Drive D:
This means
Change View > Details
Change Extra > Folder Options > Show Hidden and System files

And the Disk Manager ScreenShot
R-mouse on This Computer > Computer Management > Disk Manager

These are not the pictures I need.

I'll try again:

You showed me G:\WINDOWS with View as List
I need G:\ with View as Details

You Showed me Computer Management > Device Manager (this anyway interesting)
But I need Computer Management > Disk Manager

Right click on My Computer Icon (Oma Tietokone) and Select with Left Mouse Computer Management
Then select Disk Manager

Right , Succes

Anyway I have seen your WINDOWS is on rdisk(0)partition(2)

So Edit your C:\boot.ini with Notepad as:

[Boot Loader]

timeout=30

Default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS

[Operating Systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="USB Repair NOT to Start Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect
And Try to Boot from HDD

Succes

Aaaaaahh......it's still missing the NTLDR file,what's wrong with this price :S

I tryed like you said and it's still unpossible to start w/o usb, any idea to fix it an another way?

I think to copy some stuff from usb to G: drive,because it looks like windows need something more files from usb to run specially w/o drive. Can it help me? What the NTLDR file is? I find it on usb but can't decide yet to put it in any HD on OS

Yes that's why I wanted to see your G: drive in detail to see what files (NTLDR) are missing.

Anyway you can Copy NTLDR and NTDETECT.COM from USB-stick to Drive G:

And try Again.

Is there a boot.ini on Drive G: ?
