Ok, i have built a LiveXP bootable USB drive. (used the download function for the "mini" install.
Trying to run it on a Toshiba notebook which has a custom RAID controller.

I have just intergrated the drivers into the LiveXP build, however, when booting into LiveXP it does not detect the RaidController at all. (Note: i am not talking about installing the driver, i am talking about Windows detecting the hardware at all.)
Infact, there are a lot of devices that i would expect to see a yellow ? on in Device Manager, but there are very few devices when comparing this Windows Session with a local session.

shouldn't all the devices that Windows doesn't have built in drivers for show up in device manager so you can manually install drivers?

Is the HWID of your controller currently support by DriverPacks. If not, to get your disk seen under PE you will need to either a) post a link to the necessary driver on their website so that it can be supported and consequently supported under LiveXP; or b) write a script yourself to include your driver.

Regards,
Galapo.

Then you can say both that you are in fast (please read as slow) mode or fast slow mood. ;)

English is tricky....

When will the Ramadan end? ;)

Should we expect that your y and o keys will start working after it?

i must say that YOUR sense of humor is out class . it must have been a top most reason that your wife liked to have YOU as a husband .(sorry if i am being little personal here )

well , my keyboard keys are working fine , but it is the language in which i communicate normally in sms with my buddies . and also on some other forums too , i know it is not right . but you are the first one who keep saying me it . and believe me i have started to overcome it now .

Ramadan is ending here in Pakistan tomorrow hopefully . i mean tomorrow is gonna be the last fast . then on monday , EID ;)

may be Lanceloot is celebrating EID tomorrow . it is different world wide , islamic months are dependent on the movement of Moon .

Well, last time I checked, Moon was moving the same for all the countries and people..... ;)

Seriously, is there enough distance from Turkey to Pakistan to "switch" a day?

I mean, Pakistan is GMT+5, Turkey is GMT+2 or +3, it shouldn't make an entire day difference. ;)

I do understand the difference between, say, Morocco (GMT+0) and a far east country, like Indonesia (GMT+8 or +9), but between Pakistan and Turkey?

There must be something else involved in the calculations that create the different date as a result. ;)

there is no 'legacy mode' for this device. its not a normal Intel/NVIDIA SATA controller.

like i said in my first post, whether the driver is included in LiveXP or not, shouldn't all devices be shown in Device Manager? The ones with no drivers just don't work as there is no driver.

or is driver detection done during boot and anything that doesn't have a driver is forgotten about?

It's difficult to say.

"custom" might mean "really custom" and needing a number of drivers. ;)

Can you try running a hardware scanner when booted to the PE, something like:
SIW:
http://www.gtopala.com/
or SIV:
http://rh-software.com/
(SIW should be fully portable, SIV might need some tricks/tweaks) ;)

And post some actual details on the laptop/controller/driver?

;)

maybe im not being clear....

You install XP onto a computer and go into Device Manager. 99% of the time there will be devices that XP does not have the driver for. These all show up as Unknown Devices.

Should the same thing happen with LiveXP????

And I am also not clear which makes two of us. ;)

There isn't a simple answer to your question, the answer is yes/no, i.e. yes, most devices should show as Unknown devices, but no, not all devices will be shown, it is very possible that a device is completely NOT detected (and thus not listed as Unknown).

Example (casually ;) of a RAID controller)

Still OT. ;)

@maanu
Thanks, I found from the links on wikipedia, the "right" approach to understand and a nice list:
http://www.moonsight...om/methods.html
and now I understand the reason of the one day difference, I had wrongly assumed that every country used a "calculated" method.

Just reminding, Turkiye officially use Gregorian calender ;)
Here Islamic Calender (Hijri calendar) is only used for religious stuff (Calculation for Ramazan month, Calculation for namaz (pray) etc.)
I dont know how this is on Pakistan ! (maanu ? ;) )

Today here is the last day of Ramazan (I guess like maanu, day finished here), we call Arife day, Starting from tomorrow 3 days are Ramazan holiday (here also called Sugar holiday, but too religious guys dont like the name Sugar ;) ) ...... B)

Happy Ramazan festival maanu

@pantner
Reminding: On post2 Galapo already wrote you to check if your HWID supported by DriverPacks, if not here is the dps topic to report,

edit:

Maanu, I use nt5 based OS, my mainboard supports ahci ;), it is not about the os, it is about the mainboard, and some mainboards dont let you disable ahci mode ;)

same here Lanceloot , we follow the world standard for months . but for religious matters we use Hijri calender .

well tomorrow ( actually today ,it is 3.53 AM ) we are going to keep the 29th fast . lets see if Eid is tomorrow or day after tomorrow .

p.s i know AHCI does work on xp , but i was saying that NT6 supports it natively .

By default Unknown Devices don't appear. In Device Manager, click 'View | Show hidden devices'.

No further help can be given until you answer my question from my first reply as we can't mind-read what controller you have and corresponding HWID.

my problem wasn't "i can't get a driver to install", my problem was "its not detecting the device".

Now that i know how to get it to see the unknown devices i should be able to work the rest out.

thanks

I just wanted an answer to my question. I ask what 2x2 is and people are giving me 12x12...not what i wanted.

though i am still having trouble. I have found the device (showing up as 'PCI Device').

When i try to update the driver to the proper one (at the moment its just a folder on the USB Drive that im booting off) it comes up with the error "An error occurred during the installation of the device. The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request".

While it is labelled as Toshiba Raid Controller, i think it is an Intel ICH7R (or similar) controller but does seem to need the Toshiba Driver to work.
VEN: 8086 DEV: 27C5

I have got Driver Import PE included, but when i try and run it, it has the error "Description of storage media (X:) is not possible".

i also noticed there were a lot of devices that will install if i just manually updated the driver for it (ie, IDE Controller and IDE Channels) but they don't seem to have the drivers installed automatically, why is that?

It is normal that in PE in device manager you can see some unknown devices marked with yellow question mark.
In most case the PE is working independently from these 'yellow question marks'.

But when a special storage driver needed
(e.g. in the bios not the IDE mode selected but AHCI or RAID, or if you use SCSI controller, or special RAID controller card)
then should integrate the storage driver into PE at build time,
have to use txtsetup.sif
and an XP based PE at boot will load the driver via txtsetup.sif.

So in LiveXP have to use special script to integrate the storage driver,
for this purpose there are the scripts in '/LiveXP/Drivers/4 Storage/'
e.g.:
DPs-Build_MassStorageDrivers.script
and
DPs-MassStorageDrivers_au3.script
or there is olegpov's tool: 'DPs MassStorage DriverPack Integrator with MSSTmake.exe' here

If none of the above script works successfully in your case,
then have to write a new/special script for your controller,
or should correct possible bugs in the existing script.

The .inf and mainly the TXTSETUP.OEM files
from the vendor's driver package
(some vendor call it 'F6 driver diskette')
can help a lot to write such script.
That is the reason why Galapo asked
the HWID of your conroller
(In 'Device Manager' the properties for a device should provide a Details tab
that contains additional information about the device,
Device Instance ID, Hardware IDs, Compatible IDs, Matching Device ID etc.)
or the link to the original and working driver package on the vendor's site.

Thanks for that. I have downloaded The driver intergrator and pointed it to the drivers. I put the KR10l.sys file in system32\drivers, but it did not install.

here is a direct link to the drivers

At the given link i can found only this message:

Session Finished:
Your session will automatically time-out on our web pages if there has been no activity for 30 minutes. If your session has ended and you were logged on as a registered user, we have automatically logged you out as a security precaution

i don't know Toshiba and 'KR10l.sys'
but reading other forums seems to me maybe it is a simple Intel ICH
and existing LiveXP script can integrate its driver

first
did you already try the script 'DPs Mass Storage Drivers'?

in the WinBuilder interface click 'Download'
in 'Download Center' select the server : livexp.boot-land.net
select the scripts:
LiveXP\Drivers\4 Storage\DPs-Build_MassStorageDrivers-Bin.script
LiveXP\Drivers\4 Storage\DPs-Build_MassStorageDrivers.script
and download them,
then at build enable 'DPs Mass Storage Drivers'
after the first running of
'Build DPs Mass Storage Drivers script'
later it is enough to enable only the
'DPs Mass Storage Drivers'

if it was not successful
please give an other link (not as direct as the previous)
please give the exact HWID
download this tool
run it on your real OS
post the resulted 'HWIDs.txt'

Yes ;), but since we apparently know a bit more than you do on this specific topic, we knew in advance that NEXT problem will have been

"i can't get a driver to install"
