Hello. I have been working on making myself a nice VistaPE disc for the past couple days. Everything was going fine, but I wanted to install AVG and TrueImage on the disc. Neither one worked, and upon further investigation I realized I needed the ComboBox script installed, and the CDROM Y: and RunOnceEx options enabled. Okay, no problem (or so I thought)... I downloaded and installed it. That's where my problems began.

The first thing that was a little irritating was the excessive length of time it takes for the ComboBox configuration screen to come up within WinBuilder, but I figured I could deal with that. The next thing was the extremely cryptic list of options with a lack of any documentation of any kind, leaving it up to the user to guess what each option means. Then you've got the Logon screen that you can't disable, and there appears to be no actual option for the RunOnceEx feature... Okay I'm getting off topic.

Anyway, after having all kinds of issues with ComboBox, I decided it would be best to just disable it and figure out another way to get AVG and TrueImage to work. So I went ahead and disabled it and ran the script list again. And now, lo and behold, I can't get into Windows! No matter what I do now, it does one of two things when I try and boot from the disc image in VMware. 1) It gets to the end of the "Windows is loading files..." screen and just sits there and does nothing, or 2) It gets to that same point and reboots, making an infinite loop. When I try to boot from the image in VirtualBox, it gets to that same point, and then VirtualBox crashes.

Now, before you reply to this, be sure and read this list I'm about to give you of everything I've already tried:
  • Deleting the temp and target folders
  • Re-downloading the VistaPE scripts
  • Rebooting the computer
  • Disabling just about everything in the build, including the entire apps folder
  • Deleting and re-downloading 00-config-base.script and script.project
  • Re-dumping my Vista install disc
  • Reinstalling the WAIK

I checked my build log, and there are never any errors. There are, however, 188 warnings, but it looks to me like they shouldn't matter. I'll attach my latest log in case anyone wants to analyze it.

I've only found one other person who seems to have a similar problem, and he solved it by doing a full nuke n' pave of his hard drive, which I will absolutely not do.

I'm running the build on Vista 64-bit using a 32-bit install disc dumped to a directory on my hard drive. I also have the WAIK installed. Both of these things are correctly pointed to in WinBuilder.

This worked many, many times up until I axed the ComboBox script, so I can't believe this problem would have anything to do with my configuration or build environment.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Please remember that this is not a commercial project. Developers generally don't like to write documentation, hence the issue here you note. Also, people here are doing mostly a hobby and devote their time, hence why I would suggest that your language of "outrageous", "stupid", etc. would be a bit offense to the person who has devoted his time to produce the so-called "outrageous" and "stupid" thing you have tried to use. Please read the board rules, particuarly points 7 and 12. No one is forcing you to use what ever it is you are, so please lighten up and respect the work of others who have devoted their own time to produce something, whether thats outrageous or stupid to you or not.

Thanks,
Galapo.

I understand that this is not a commercial product and people do it in their spare time, etc. I have to respectfully disagree with you, however, because being a not-for-profit developer myself, I generally try to make my programs not only functional, but also easy to use and logically laid out so that people will know how to use them.

I apologize if I offended anyone; that was not my intent. I just wanted to point out some things that I - and I'm sure other people as well - find very irritating. Not to mention that wasn't even the main point of my post.

Then all I would want to say in response is that if that is not your intention, then it would be a good idea to drop the use of adjectives like "outrageous" and "stupid". They only inflame and would cause the developer to get their back up and not want to give the help which you seek.

Regards,
Galapo.

Post edited.

Also, I did manage to get it to work again by deleting the entire project folder and starting over from scratch. Still very annoying though... :(

If you feel documentation is missing then the write some and post it in the forums. There is alot of good documentation for VistaPE at http://www.vistape.net/.

I don't know how I can write documentation for something if I don't understand how it works... That's why I wanted the developer to write some. But thanks for your input anyway.
