Hi There,

Greets to all of you, PE community, and specially those in charge of this site, an absolute success.

PENetCfg:
I updated PE Network Configurator to v2.33 to add support for WinPE 3 (Windows 7-based PE).
Actually it was already working but I updated it to fix the bug of complaining about missing factory.exe and the like if it tries to start network support.

ERDLogon:
I updated ERDLogon to v1.2 to add support for MSDaRT 6.0 (Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset or ERD Commander Tools 6.0) as MSDaRT 6.0 changed the method of setting Target OS Root.
Also, with ERDLogon v1.2 you can launch MSDartTools.exe or individual tools without having to launch RecEnv.exe (Recovery Environment Tool) that forces a reboot or shutdown afterwhich.
Also, you'll be able to set Target OS Root to paths of WinXP/2K3 and make most of MSDaRT 6.0 tools work on older systems.

PS: you can download the tools from my page http://www.geocities.com/pierremounir/
(No problem of uploading them on any free Web hosting service to avoid download limit on Yahoo, for interested people of course)

Best regards,
Pierre Mounir (TheTruth)

Great the function to change on the fly MAC address
[on some autenthication platform before to access a network share it checks the MAC address]

And I'm also glad to be here, thanks!

Is this a report or a question?

Yeah, I made it mainly for my own use and to prove to some company that it's easy to spoof MAC Address Authentication :P

Hi Pierre,

I have tested your new PENetCFG version.
I want to use the option to change the hostname.
It changes the hostname of the IP stack, but not the Netbios hostname. When I use the command Hostname, it still displays the generated hostname. Is it possible to fix this?

Hi Louis,

Actually I see no problem here, PENetCfg changes the Hostname and NetBIOS Computer Name.

Are you sure you click the Set button after you change Computer Name? It seems you change it and then click Apply or OK

If you still can't see the change after clicking the Set button, let me know which version of WinPE you use.

@almulder

I use a similar profile to yours to just change the computer name after boot, and I don't have such a problem.

Do you see the name you assigned in profile in the GUI of PENetCfg?
If no, then your profile is not processed. This can happen if network started by another app or wpeinit.exe was run before PENetCfg (If it's PE2/3).

So, clarify if you have different names using different tools (mention them) or the name hasn't chasnged at all.

Pierre,

I have tried to set the PC Name by hand with the GUI, but it does not work. (The name in the TCP Stack is changing but not the NETBios name)
I can change the workgroup, but not the PC name.
I am using the latest PENetCFG v2.33 in a Win7PE environment.
(Windows 7 RC UK)

(I can live with it, because the generated name is also UNIQUE, but it could be a nice to have feature)

Regards
Louis

Which utility do you use to read the TCP Stack name and which one do you use to read the NetBIOS name?

Pierre,

I use NBTSTAT -n to read the Netbios name and IPCONFIG /ALL to read the TCP/IP stack

@almulder

You're right, the NetBIOS Computer Name doesn't change and actually this was the case since Vista-based PE (PE 2/2.1), but no one reported it.

It's not a bug; I just have to find a workaround to change this name on the fly in PE2/3, so be patient...

Great work TheTruth! :)
Just a couple of questions... :)
ERDLogon already works with the new Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset 6.5, right? :)
Is there any script to automatically integrate DaRT 6.5 into our Win7PE build using WinBuilder? :drunk:

I like others (PE Shell swaper and PEnetCfg) as x64 compatible too.
Thanks in advance to The Truth! :drunk:

No. But if you copy today's update of WinRE.script from VistaPE-CAPI (server vistape.winbuilder.net) and comment out lines 30 through 34, it should come pretty close to working. Sorry I don't have time right now to figure out if it actually will work, or what more it needs if it fails.

Read the provided "Click for an explanation ...".

I sent him an email through the link on his site .. I don' know if it was that or Lancelot's PM or something else that led him to create ERDLogon x64.

Porting PENetCfg & PEShell to x64 will be done once there is 64-bit version of Delphi/Object Pascal compiler, I'm just waiting but I guess it's coming soon.

BTW, since you're in my thread :) , where is the registry settings & files required to add Windows Explorer to WinPE? Remember?

Actually, I haven't received your e-mail but received the PM and replied to it with link to the new version of ERDLogon x64.

I would like to open a new thread about everyone's experience with stubborn apps on WinPE 3.0 (Win7PE) that he managed to make plug-in for.

I mean everyone tells what apps were hard to add to WinPE 3.0 and how he manged to make it work. (I talk about out-of-box WinPE not the one with Explorer or the like)

I'll start this thread with the following apps:
  • Norton PartitionMagic 8.05
  • Norton Recovery Tool 2009 (comes with Norton AntiVirus 2009)
  • Directory Opus 9.5
  • MSDaRT 5.0 (ERD Commander 5.0) (for XP/2K3 support)
  • Paragon Mount Everything 3.0
  • O&O Derag 12.0
So, how do you think about opening this thread? And can I expect others to share their experience?

Hi TheTruth,

I am not clear what you mean, sorry.
I thought you are asking about Explorer reg setting and files from Win 7.
Because Win7PE has all needed files and reg keys are included for Explorer shell. Just you can omit "WB-" from WB-SYSTEM, WB-SOFTWARE, WB-DEFAULT from all reg keys. That's it.
No hidden files and registry keys in all of my scripts.
If you are not clear PM me again. I'll make all of them and send to you.

Just trying your erd logon script with 7PEs project now and so busy. :drunk:
