hello all

I wanted to install windows XP, and vista and also windows 7 throught iso with Grub4dos. I have USB stick with Grub4dos and I would like to instal these windows from USB but when I try to run :

title XP
map (hd0,0) /ISO/Windos_XP_Pro_SP3.iso
map --hook
chainloader (hd32)

--- not working---

I also tried with ntldr (hd32)/ntldr and not working.
Are there working manual for installing win iso ?

Sure it is not working, you are mapping (hd0,0)/ISO/Windos_XP_Pro_SP3.iso to "thin air".

This could work:
map (hd0,0) /ISO/Windos_XP_Pro_SP3.iso (hd32)

But it WON'T since it is NOT possible to boot succesfully a XP .iso unless it is built for RAMDISK booting.

Vista and Windows 7 .iso's (since they are WIM based) do work. :D

Find here a list of working .iso's:

This same question has been asked (and answered) n times. :D

Always use Command Line mode when experimenting:

Yes. I read the topics about installing windows with usb, but a lot of them are for only one install from USB. I use multiboot USB. I tried run windows Xp iso and not working . Of course with (HD32). I Tried run windows vista 64 bit and load OK. But after click on instal there is a screen for instal additional drivers atc.. So install doesnt work. I used also /bootmgr (for vista), /ntldr (for XP) and nothing works.

If you want to have a USB stick with multi-installs, you have two choices:
  • use an already known, tested and troubleshooted method
  • invent your own (based on .iso for XP)

Just for the record, noone ever succeeded with the latter approach.

Just in case I wasn't clear, there is NO known way to boot a XP install .iso through grub4dos mapping if not through RAMDISK.
The reason why is because it is impossible.

Read here the reasons why:

If you want to follow first one, go here:

There are THREE methods, all worked and testing, all capable of installing XP, 2003, Vista and 7:
