Hi,

Things didn't quite go to plan.

1. xcopied contents of Win7beta.iso to single Partition HDD (XP).
2. Booted WinPE 3.0.
3. Shrunk XP Volume by 200MB.
4. Created 200MB active primary Partition.
5. Created and attached 40GB VHD (VHD File on XP Partition),
6. Ran Win7beta setup.exe, which was on the HDD.
7. Auto reboot and finished installation of Win7beta.... ...
8. Tried BitLocker on Win7beta Partition (VHD). No go!
9. Tried BitLocker on old XP Partition. OK!
10. What have I done? BitLocked my only Boot Entry! ... ...
11. Of course, can't reboot! 0xc000000f ... a required device is inaccessible. ... ...

Here's the HDD BCD:

Thought I'd fix up the XP Boot Entry a bit later. I suppose it's out of the question now.

I have the BitLocker Key on a USB Flash Device. Any clues how I might get out of this one?

Currently booted off a WinPE 3.0 CD made with the pe21.003b Project. Installed FreeCommander, Opera, MBRWiz, TestDisk, and a few other Programs which probably won't help much. And connected to some neighbour's open, unsecure wireless access point ... ...

The view from WinPE 3.0 has a c:\ drive with boot\, System Volume Info\, bootmgr, and BOOTSECT.BAK. The d:\ drive (XP) is inaccessible, and the Win7beta drive (VHD) is inside the d:\drive ... ...

Thanks. I won't do that again!

Had me worried for a while. WinPE 3.0 has the right tools.

X:\Windows\System32>manage-bde.exe -unlock d: -recoverykey g:\8CEE0E......BEK

BitLocker Drive Encryption: Configuration Tool version 6.1.7000

Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

The file "g:\8CEE0E......BEK" successfully unlocked volume D:.

X:\Windows\System32>manage-bde.exe -off d:

BitLocker Drive Encryption: Configuration Tool version 6.1.7000

Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

Decryption is now in progress.

Regards

I bet that was a relief!

I had a similar issue with TrueCrypt the other day where some app must have damaged the bootsector of my drive and so my password wasn't being recognised. It was a neverous few minutes locating my backup CD and restoring the bootloader. Thankfully, it worked and I didn't have to decrypt.

Regards,
Galapo.

You're not wrong! ... ...

Then I rebooted to the same error because the decryption hadn't completed and the drive automatically re-locked. Had to do it all again. It seems the only indication of the decryption progress is the disk-activity light.

Regards

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread. Does anyone know what files or registry entries are needed to get bitlocker working on a system.

I'm using the pe3 projects at winbuilder but for those projects,
running system32\manage-bde.exe gives an error with any parameter passed to it, e.g. -status, so nothing can be unlocked. control panel bitlocker won't unlock either (unlock buttons do nothing).

If any ideas, please post on this thread:

Thank you.
