Hi gxp,

I've followed your instruction exactly.
boot.wim = 141mb
pe.bif = 4kb
Unfortunately, boot I/O error 09 while testing in both PCs.
Tested with Beta 6956.iso.

Edited::
Sorry gxp, it is my mistake. Now it is booting very well. This error occurs because my folder name is "sources" instead of "SOURCES" which is very different in PE build.

Many thanks.

As for me, I don't delete the setup file in boot.wim. :)
Then I can get System Recovery Options Page UI.
From that page I can go System Restore, System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostic or finally Command Prompt.

Good for me, but for others, as they wish. :)

Updated:: Modified PE.
I've just put Q-Dir filemanager + some portable software in it. And then I deleted unused folders (Other Languages in Windows\System32 folder)saved 29mb.
After all, I can manage Modified PE with Q-Dir Filemanager and most portable apps(WinRar,Ghost, ect,.) are working very well. :)
Attached File  win7pe.jpg   168.56KB   285 downloads
:)

Hope you can do more than that. :)

Hi All,

Here is another screen shot with Q-DIR file manager.
I won't use Start Menu, networking, audio and video yet.
As you see many are well running in it.
If I've spare enough time, I'll try to test network to work.
Welcome any idea.

Thanks for your question.

Hey,

Now I am using USB bootable 7pe (of course using GrubDos)
It is very easy to boot, just change the bootloader to bootmgr.
Booting well and I can see Windows 7 boot logo at boot time.
Very beautiful.
The better thing what I've found out is that no need to change Workgroup name from it.
It automatically changes itself and renew IP address from the server as well.
Now I am testing from my work with USB Boot 7PE.
It is really nice for me. :)

Best Regards,

So sorry, I really don't understand what you mean.
Here more images with Computer management console (mmc.exe), PEshell swapper and new BSexplorer v.2 shell. ISO image is round about 260mb.
Many thanks for your time.

Edit:: ISO image is not 260mb, only 226mb. Sorry mistaken.

I don't understand the instruction is the original post.

Can someone rewrite them in proper English as I would love to try this? I tried to make them out but just could not make out the broken English.

I would appreciate it.

I think it is a way to use the boot.wim from the Install CD-ROM. Personally, I would prefer the clean winpe.wim from the WAIK 2.0 (for Win7).

Here, I try to translate.

1, the windows7 CD-ROM (or CD-ROM image) in the \ sources \ boot.wim to copy the file d: \

Copy <CD_ROM>\sources\boot.wim to <HardDrive>\

2, in the directory imgaex right-click inf file, the installation of the election. (Imagex 6.0 AIK tools package)

Hmm...? Assumes you have the WAIK but not installed.
For WAIK 2.0:
In <?>Windows AIK\Tools\<Your Architecture>, Right-Click wimmount.inf, and select 'install'.
For WAIK 1.1 (Vista SP1):
As above, except Right-Click wimfltr.inf instead.

3, run cmd, enter the directory imgaex.

OK

4, imagex / mountrw d: \ boot.wim 2 d: \ new (to d: \ boot.wim image is mapped to the d: \ new directory)

Create directory <HardDrive>\new
In cmd:
imagex /mountrw <HardDrive>\boot.wim 2 <HardDrive>\new
to mount image index #2 to <HardDrive>\new

5, to delete d: \ new root of the file setup.exe.

Go to <HardDrive>\new and delete setup.exe

6, imagex / unmount / commit d: \ new (the merger of d: \ new image file directory changes and unloading)

In cmd:
imagex /unmount /commit <HardDrive>\new

7, d: \ boot.wim is the revised image.

The above will commit changes - basically removing setup.exe from the image - to your <HardDrive>\boot.wim file.

PE production of CD-ROM image:

1. New d:\ pe, new d: \ pe \ sources

Create <HardDrive>\pe\, and <HardDrive>\pe\sources\.

2. Copy (windows7 CD-ROM for X) X: \ boot directory (including paper) to the d: \ pe

Copy <CD_ROM>\boot directory to <HardDrive>\pe
... including paper? ... including folder?

Copy X: \ efi directory (including paper) to the d: \ pe

Copy <CD_ROM>\efi directory to <HardDrive>\pe

Copy X: \ bootmgr to file d: \ pe

Copy <CD_ROM>\bootmgr to <HardDrive>\pe

Boot.wim copy of the revised document to the d: \ pe \ sources

Copy your new boot.wim from <HardDrive>\boot.wim to <HardDrive>\pe\sources

(X CD-ROM for windows7 Fu)

? ... I don't know UltraISO ... ?

3. Windows7 CD-ROM with UltraISO extracted guidance document for the preservation of windows7.bif

? ... set up the boot image file for the .iso ... ?

4. UltraISO used to d: \ pe of directories and files added to the CD-ROM image, loading windows7.bif, save for the image PE 3.0.iso

? ... Create the .iso from <HardDrive>\pe ... ?

End of Translation.

If you install WAIK, in the newly-created WAIK Command Prompt, execute:

copype <architecture> <some directory>
to set up the Environment. Then execute (EDIT: for WAIK 1.1 for x86)

oscdimg -n -b<some directory>\etfsboot.com <some directory>\ISO <some directory>\winpe.iso
to create the .iso file.

Well! I tried! :poke:

That's OK.

I can't see the point in the whole exercise tho. I guess it was written before the WAIK was released... :poke:

If it's like Vista's install boot.wim, it's fairly limited in terms of customization.
