Installing Windows XP on a Netbook Via USB (Acer Aspire One)

Hi TheHive ,

What an excellent tutorial & indeed the narrator goes into a lot of detail into the methodology, many thanks for posting this it would be good to post in the Tutorials section for those who have purchased one of these mini notebook laptops. Great Kudos for Boot-Land though!

The fact that these mini laptops do NOT come with a DVD writer is one of the reasons I decided NOT to purchase one. The other being that I have fat fingers so the keyboard proved too dificult to use for my situation. I decided to purchase Acer aspire 2920 which comes with a DVD writer. However I have to say I even made a mistake with this unit as it was shipped with Vista & when i tried to remove & replace with XP the drivers acquisition became a problem. Also bear in mind the screen is 12" which is larger than the mini "E" books also but on the whole I am happy with it! Different strokes for diffirent folks it seems

To me it seems like a lot of trouble & clonk to have to go to so that XP is installed on it? Just to aid the "E" book users could you also attach a DVD writer EXternal to boot off from one of the USB ports to make things easier, I don't know whether this would be possible?

Sure it is.

The point was that a number of people miss such a beast, or a simple "nifty gizmo" (your words ) like this:

was born for these people, long before such things as the eeePC and Aspire One were born.

The side effect of the Commercial availability of these sub-notbooks was that the place became extremely popular, plus the numberless places on the net where some smart@§§ re-published the batches without mentioning source and re-distributing older versions/releases.

Thanks for the video only thing is...
I am Running into an issue. after loading up all the windows installation files to the thumbdrive and formating the c drive. my usb thumbdrive is still recognized as letter U: I cant seem to change this to letter D:, subsequently I get an error message when I want to start installing the files. The error message reads that the set up has no access to the CD rom which contains the installation files.
Basically this is where I am stuck now

Right questions, wrong place to ask them, and wrong "subsequently".

The program SHOULD map the USB stick to letter U:, so it seems like working as expected.
