NO, I already have available what I want, the PLAIN, GOOD, OLD DEFAULT IPB skin, please:

  • DO NOT touch it
  • DO NOT update it
  • LEAVE it as is

Feel free to change, update, do whatever you want to the other ones, but leave the DEFAULT one as is, as it has been, as it was and as it should be for the next say 100 years.
(we dinosaurs have a diferent way of perceiving time passing....)

jaclaz

Inspite I usually enjoy to contradict Jaclaz (unfortunatelly mostly with being the second winner after his reply)

Here I only can say:

Fully agree!

I was talking about updating the navigation links that are changed every 2~20 years.

Nor would I even dare to imagine another venture and attempt to modify that skin or "Those who we do not speak of" would forever haunt this village.. :)

Ok, i would like to check, if a different skin fixes my issues, but seem to not be able to find any setting for skin.
Can someone help me out?

@Nuno!

Thanks for rebuilding the design into a READABLE version!

Still one worry: the drop downs like emoticons are transparent. That's very irritating. Is it possible to have them solid?

Peter :)

jaclaz, since I'm also a dinosaur (age above 35; aaaeeehhh, even more) could you please tell me how to activate default skin. Or do you mean Lo-Fi Version? Or do I have to interpret your other post in such a way that I have no chance because I have opened the new Boot-Land forum and because of automatically using the new Web 2.0 based design no chance to get it back? In my control panel 'Board Settings' I don't see anything that would change board design :)

Many Greetings

Though I like the reading of text being written in a serif font, Georgia probably isn't the best choice (e.g. numbers not good to read). Because of availability a font should be selected that is part of 'Microsoft core fonts for the web' or Arial, Times New Roman. From the core fonts Verdana looks pretty good. I created a screen copy also containing the problematic combinations
  • small letter O, capital letter O, Zero
  • small letter I, capital letter I, small letter L, capital letter L, One
I think they can be distinguished.

@Medevil
@MichaelZ

Check again my previous post, I listed the codes for existing skins:
http://www.boot-land...?...=6431&st=44

or click on this link:
http://www.boot-land...?...&act=UserCP

or copy and paste in a new tab of your browser the following link, change the xx to tt and press [ENTER]
hxxp://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?s=&setskin=1&skinid=22&act=UserCP

The syntax is not that difficult:
hxxp://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?s= <=base address
&setskin=1 <=this means that you want to set a skin
&skinid=22 <=this means that you want to set skin #22 (IPB default)
&act=UserCP <= OPTIONAL sends you to your Control Panel (which, with the default skin - and a few others, has a dropdown list to change skins in lower left part of the screen)

jaclaz

@all
the essence of my previous font related post:
http://www.boot-land...?...=6431&st=31
that it seems to me clear enough is:
SansSerif Fonts are BETTER on screen ->Verdana
Serif fonts are better on paper -> Georgia

In other words, I suggested to use Verdana, NOT Georgia, as Verdana is, among the Sans Serif fonts probably the most readable on screen. (Arial is just an "ugly" Verdana, as I see it :))

Hi jaclaz,

unfortunately skin selection does not work for me.

index.php?s=&setskin=1&skinid=22 does not set the default skin and so the user control panel also doesn't have the drop down list to select the skin:
Posted Image
As you can see in the address field I used the correct link.

Now you probably understand why I didn't understand your post about skin selection...

What else can I try?

Many Greetings

I've added a direct link on the left column of the web 2.0 skin.

From the safe skin, you can change back to this skin by clicking on the link at the page footer.

Hi Nuno,

skinid 22 doesn't work for me but skinid 27 looks very familiar...

Many Greetings
MichaelZ

P.S. Nuno, if you have spare time :( you can probaly update the link to the images in your footer.

Hi Nuno,

Giving links with "post number" dont work with new design
ex: when i right click Medevil's Post 13's #13, and click "copy shortcut" i get this
http://www.boot-land...?...c=6431&hl=#

Also
Sharing feelings of MichealZ for implementing safeskin.

@Medevil
Strange, they work flawlessly for me, and if you use the new drop down box Nuno added, you will see that the resulting code is the one I specified.

Someone :cheers: already changed the codes, so now we have:
skinid=22 IPB default <-"default, usual, NOT_needing_ANY_improvement" skin
skinid=27 Webber
skinid=35 IPB Board Pro
skinid=38 Web 2.0 <-this is the "new, better, improved" skin

jaclaz

Just for the record:

Inspite I usually enjoy to contradict Jaclaz (unfortunatelly mostly with being the second winner after his reply)

Peter

I (respectfully :cheers:) disagree with your agreeing.... :cheers: , is this an attempt to deprive me of some of the fun? ;)

Gentleman: Even though, I visit infrequently, it's nice to be able to choose the skin one prefers. The new design is nice enuf, but since we're voting I've chosen the old style bec it's more efficient and what I'm accustomed to on tech fora....

jaclaz, no idea where you've got the skin ids from, but for me just 27 works. It gives me the safe skin. All other ids give me Web 2.0 skin. :cheers:

That's the stange part. ;)
Go to your control panel, in either normal or web 2.0, your address bar should contain:
hxxp://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?act=UserCP&CODE=00
choose another skin in the dropdown list, the address in your address bar (I am talking about Opera) should change along the codes I gave.
hxxp://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?s=&setskin=1&skinid=22&act=UserCP&CODE=00&cal_id=0
hxxp://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?s=&setskin=1&skinid=27&act=UserCP&CODE=00&cal_id=0
hxxp://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?s=&setskin=1&skinid=35&act=UserCP&CODE=00&cal_id=0
hxxp://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?s=&setskin=1&skinid=38&act=UserCP&CODE=00&cal_id=0

and the skin should change accordingly.

Maybe 'IOHO' ('in OUR humble opinion') :cheers:
I remember to have used the word 'ugly', too, some posts ago.

But fortunatelly Nuno gave us the possibility to have a GUI similar to 'the old one'

For me only the readibility and the 'feeling when looking' is important.

I really do not mind if a special function now is 'in the upper left' and previously 'in the lowe right' ( just a sample, no real background)

If you have safe skin you should be happy and not try to loose it again! ;)

Ok, I am temporarily a dummy user. #42 for the record (from Afghanistan)

@medevil
@Michaelz

You are right, our boss has left only #27 available to members.
Any other value goes to the new, and I will tell only once again IMNSHO
UGLY
STUPID
UNCALLED FOR
FORCED UPON USERS
NEW WEB 2.0 skin

@Nuno
Again I will ask this only once:
Please, please, please, can you re-enable the #22 IPB board DEFAULT
Please, please, please, will you give to the users the freedom to choose the skin they like better?

I would like to see the board with the the IPB board DEFAULT, even when I register as a dummy user, EVERYONE should have the freedom to choose the IPB board DEFAULT if they wish to do so.

What the heck is the problem preventing you to add this possibility? :cheers:

And no, I never used the #27, I like #22.

I am serious ;) .
