I have vista pe disk up an working. I would like to add support for usb flash drives. I thought since this was a vista boot disk it would auto find them (like MS winpe 2.0) When I plug my flash drive in Vista PE does not see it. How can I add support for USB mass storage devices like my flash drive?

Often plugging it in before booting works.

Ive added MountStorPE script to my VistaPE disk. When I plug in my usb flash drive and run MountStorPE in VistaPE it says 0 new partitions found.

Running HWPNP it does not help. Anyone know if there is a universal USB mas storage driver I can install? I believe there are no drivers for usb flash drives installed in the base vistaPE.

Did you load any other drivers to get this to work? Ive loaded usb mass storage drivers but it does not help. I think the default Vista PE drivers script does not load USB chipset drivers and maybe that's why the flash drive does not show up (even in device manager)

OK so this works, if I plug in the usb flash drive before boot up and keep it in it shows up and can be removed and when re-connect to usb again it finds it.

Why wont vistaPE find a USB mass storage device if it is not plugged in before boot up? this makes no sense.

Well, it may make no sense to you, but it makes sense in some fashion. I can't explain it. But it's pretty much SOP for systems booted from CD or equivalent. Making it otherwise has consumed a large amount of developer's time, and obviously they aren't finished yet.

Hi,
I have the same problem.
By searching for a solution of this problem i find a script named "partition_find_and_mount" who allows me to "mount" connected drives such as USB-Sticks and USB-Harddrives and give them a Drive-Letter.

greetings

Missed this yesterday, sorry (server mess) - No, I didn't add any drivers; I'm currently using vistape12b3 with the update pack from Markus Debus. I do include the uictl_v1.rar and devcon.exe files (usually downloaded during build but otherwise didn't change much. Sorry to say Markus (ctmag) seems to have pulled his very useful update pack and RC1 doesn't work for me at all (all old bugs are back with a vengeance), go figure.

Sent links, hope that helps. btw, I use sp0 source (sp1 should also work) and WAIK installed at C: root. Check AddDrivers script if you need add'l drivers but don't forget to point to driver files
