I'd appreciate some help on the following matter. Basically my problem is that although the io.sys and ntldr files are detected, trying to chainload them always results in an error 13. Chainloading the corresponding boot sectors (bootsect.dos, and XP boot sector) on the same drive works. Also, I can boot from a floppy via chainloader+1.
My setup:
(hd0) is on a RAID controller, has 2 partitions
1. FAT partition (hd0,0) containing ntldr, boot.ini, io.sys, command.com, etc for booting DOS and XP on (hd0,1), and has grldr and menu.lst.
2. NTFS partition with XP
The boot process without grub4dos would load ntldr and boot.ini from the FAT partition, offering to boot into DOS or XP.
I installed Grub4DOS into the boot sector of the FAT partition. As stated above, menu.lst and grldr are located there.
In grub4dos, I always use root (hd0,0) because io.sys and ntldr are both located there. Find /io.sys or find /ntldr commands return (hd0,0). This works fine. However, whenever I try to issue chainloader (hd0,0)/io.sys or chainloader (hd0,0)/ntldr, I get an error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format.
I also have the DOS boot sector (bootsect.dos) and XP boot sector (bs.org) on the FAT partition, and chainloading them (chainloader (hd0,0)/bs.org) does work.
I've found one similar thread on these forums where an eSATA drive was used and boot sector chainloading worked but not the ntldr, but I don't think there was any solution to my problem.
Error 13 on chainloading ntldr or io.sys

Oh, I didn't know the link you posted. I downloaded the one on the sourceforge project page, so it's 0.4.3. I'll check the newest version tomorrow.

Version 0.4.4/2008.10.22 works perfectly. I feel like a noob for not trying the newest one, then again, I didn't know I wasn't downloading from the right place.
Thanks for your help.
