Hi, my problem is i have an acer aspire 1300 laptop with a broken internal dvd drive, it has an internal floppy drive and 2 usb slots. The usb slots are NOT i repeat NOT bootable. I have formated the hard drive in 2 partitions c: and d:, now what i would like to do is use my 1gb flash and copy the xp I386 folder on it using my other pc, next boot the laptop in dos with usb support, then copy the i386 folder to the d: drive , next install xp from the d: drive onto the c: drive.


Now i have tried several ways to boot in dos with usb support, the only way i get it working is using usbaspi.sys with the DI1000 driver.
But, when i get the usb flash drive detected i can go te the root of it and see the files no problem so far, i return to the floppy a: and try to copy or xcopy the content of the flash drive to the hardrive. So it starts copying the files but hangs after copying 5 files or so at random.
I thought the problem was large files, so i plit the i386 folder into 400 smal rar files and tried again, same thing happens hangs after 5 or 10 files.

Im gettin crazy of this problem.

Is there anyone who has any idea what is going wrong ?? Or is there a dos program that has beter support for usb ??

This Floppy was created by a Chinese group who made it into English available also.
Made by Wengier and Roy, China DOS Union. 2002-2004.

Just for note from me. One time I had to use the USB support to use a USB CD/DVD burner in order to install an OS to a Laptop. I had no other method then booting with a floppy drive and then using this to floppy to recognize my USB device and then Install the OS. So it worked for my. It might work for you.

It seems to me like some kind of timeout problem between the DOS USB driver and your hardware, though it's very strange, it may be due to some hardware problem.

I can only provide you with some "semi-random" ideas:
1) Make your stick bootable and install to harddisk PLOP:

if it works with your hardware you will be able to boot from USB

2) Partialize the copy, by using a batch file that copies only five files a the time, has a pause, then copies another five.

3) Run SMARTDRV in DOS, it should better the copy process

4) Is the partition to which you are trying to copy FAT16?
There are reports that di1000DD does not work properly with FAT32:

Damn, i have tried both disks ans they dont recognice the usb stick ( tried a different stick and a psp also)

1. The plop thing i wil look into that if i have some spare time.
2. Doesnt work either just freezes later on.

Im using xxcopy now and wrote a batch file that copys the files and deletes the succesfully copyd ones, and trying to copy al the files by rebooting over and over again (would be nice if i could write a batch file that would 1.copy like 10 files and delete the source files 2.reboot the pc 3. start over again.

I have tried the boot disk you made (thank you very much for it) sometimes it loads the usb stick sometimes it doesnt, when it does load it i get the same thing as with the boot disk i made starts copying then freezes. Same old thing to bad.

One more thing i use xcopy ive tried copying like i mentioned by deleting the files that are succesfully copied the program says copying..Deleted..copying..Deleted so far so good
but when i check the files are not deleted ??

I think i wil better give up and go buy a case for putting the hd in so i can hook it up on my other pc.

Its a good experiment to go into if you have the time to change drivers.
You can use Winimage to replace the dll's. To test if one of them works in youre case.

I think im gonna quit trying im in a little over my head i guess, to bad i didnt get the "YES I WORKS" moment.....

Hey guys, again im rather late.

Im amazed that noone posted this link, the (almost-)every-driver-there-is USB boot disk by that guy who hosted the JRE drivers:

This should work somehow im sure.

Another tip would be, take that damn laptop apart, pick up a 2,5-3,5 IDE adapter (and a replacement DVD drive if youre at it) , and hook up the HDD to another computer - not neccessarily newbie safe but live and learn i say.

Oh, hmm... my bad

But, Guykes answered like he only checked if its FAT16 and didnt test that floppy.
So im still right in pointing it out , and i do believe this compilation has the highest success rates.
