Just for your information: when running HDtune (latest version is 2.55), you can no longer run BeebleBrox or ptedit32, an error message is displayed. So just close HDtune before running these two utilities.

Good point!
Most probably the conflict arises as HDTune doesn't like "direct" disk access.
It is a good idea to switch off ANY "hard disk monitoring" utility when using direct disk access, like the said tool, diskprobe, the various hex/disk editor's like WinHex and "dd-like" copying tools like dsfo/dsfi and similar software.

I use HDtune for hard disk temperature mainly, it is started usually at boot time and minimized on the tray. It is a while since I finally discover the problem with Beeblebrox/ptedit32 due to HDtune active. Other softwares like Partition magic, Acronis disk director, True Image or XP disk management do not have problem with HDTune running, so the problem determination were difficult.
Be warned also: if there are USB hard disk plugged in when HDtune is running (and/or minimized), you cannot use "Safely remove hardware' icon to unplug those USB HDD, although there is no apparent applications that open files on these hard disks ! You have to remember that HDtune is running on the tray, stop it, then you can unplug the USB HDD.
