If VISTA CD's haven't changed (as compared to 2K/XP ones), the - Press any Key to boot from CD - does NOT come from the bootmanager, but from the "No-Emulation" CD bootsector that loads, BEFORE the SETUPLDR.BIN, the file bootfix.bin.

Thank you for the link, but I cannot imagine how to apply to VistaPE.
The PEBuilder script copy the bootfix.bin to the windows directory, not more.
I extracted bootfix.bin from a Windows XP CD, but how can I implement it to VistaPE?

What I was trying to say was:
1) the message - Press any Key to boot from CD - is NOT related to the bootmanager
2) it is related to the No-Emulation CD bootsector, i.e. comes into play BEFORE the bootmanager
3) the No-emulation CD bootsector of 2K/XP (cannot say about VISTA) invokes file bootfix.bin BEFORE calling SETUPLDR.BIN
4) the bootfix.bin is the actual file causing the message
5) the "normal" Hd/USB stick bootsector does NOT invoke bootfix.bin

Thus:
1) If you are using a non-CD boot device, you CANNOT use bootfix.bin, unless you create your own custom HD bootsector to replicate this behaviour, consequently, you CANNOT have this feature.

FYI, a 30 seconds google search confirmed that bootfix.bin exists on Vista DVD also:
http://www.911cd.net...o...=12951&st=0

And that the behaviour remains the same as "older" OSses:
http://www.svrops.co...winvistape2.htm

• When you boot from a WinPE 2.0 USB flash drive, your PC will not prompt you to boot from the flash drive (like it will do when booting from a CD or DVD). It just boots right into WinPE.
• Also, if you don't want to be prompted to boot from the WinPE 2.0 CD or DVD, delete the bootfix.bin file from the \ISO\boot folder before creating your WinPE 2.0 CD/DVD.

Thanks - Ok - what I want is to use the default No-Emulation bootsector as used when generating a Microsoft WinPE 2.0 bootmedia.
I don't need a bootmanager.
I boot from CD (ISO under VMWare 6) not from HDD/USB.
If my english is good enough, then i assume that this is not possible with VistaPE?

Cannot say if your English is good enough , but I will try again:
1) If you boot from CD/DVD (or .iso) using the standard No-emulation CD bootsector, it IS possible
2) If you boot from CD/DVD (or .iso) using NOT the standard No-emulation CD bootsector it IS NOT possible
3) If you boot from any NON CD/DVD media, it IS NOT possible

VistaPE is nothing but a convenient way to create a (customized) WinPE 2.0 environment.

Re-read the linked to thread:
http://www.svrops.co...winvistape2.htm

Re-read TWICE this part of it:

• Also, if you don't want to be prompted to boot from the WinPE 2.0 CD or DVD, delete the bootfix.bin file from the \ISO\boot folder before creating your WinPE 2.0 CD/DVD.

Now try to add to your .iso the file bootfix.bin in the \boot\ folder ....:D

@Msenn,

paraglider posted a VistaPE Script to copy the bootfix.bin to '%TargetDir%\boot\'.

'Is there a way to enable "Press any key to boot from cd/dvd" in Vista PE ?'

It may need updating for the latest VistaPE?

Also... I'm not certain, but I have a vague feeling that when you boot from CD/DVD/ISO, and there is no HDD, or no OS on an existing HDD (including Virtual HDs too), the 'press any key' will not appear in any case... ?

Its version 11.

I'm certain because I formery used VistaCE (Vista Chip Edition).
I want to use VistaPe to run Unattended XP installations.
So after booting from CD, partitioning, formatting, running Windows setup, an automatic reboot is done, and the user can go away leaving the CD in the slot.
If bootfix is implemented, at the next boot windows setup will start form disk ...
(Bios boot sequences mostly first media is CD).
I changed the scripts 'Config.script' and 'Standard-7-iso.script' so that I have an additional choice for booting per bootfix.bin, but I when booting I get an error that 'Bootmgr' isn't found, although it exists!?

I think that paraglider's script should still work. You could insert the following from the Script into the [FileCopyStandard] Section of 'Standard-1-files.Script':

FileCopy,"%SDIR%\boot\bootfix.bin","%TargetDir%\boot"

Optionally, select 'Full' file copy in the Interface to implement:

DirCopy,"%BootSRC%\*.*","%TargetDir%"

FileCopy,"%SDIR%\bootmgr","%TargetDir%\BOOTMGR"

DirCopy,"%SDIR%\boot\*.*","%TargetDir%\Boot"

... but I now see that you 'got it'! What? How?

No, you treated him very well ;) ...
My Account (Msenn) was defect.
(Password could not be changed etc.)
So it had to be deleted.
Now I've changed to Seiba ... :D

@allanf
:) Sorry, you are right.
If there is no existing HDD, OS then 'press any key' will not appear.
