Hi

I discovered something on http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/
it's called "TBOSDT suite".
I don't know exactly what it is, but user manual says something about boot
from iso, or boot from *.bin file, but it's to complicated for me, but it looks promising
...

maybe someone can have a quick look and explain here...

Thnx

It's interesting!

I'll have a look at it, as a "quick" one is not enough.

Ok, it is something that is SIMPLY GREAT!

From the docs:

The TeraByte OS Deployment Tool (TBOSDT) is a specialized command shell that supports an advanced set of commands to perform various tasks related to OS deployment, as well as more generalized types of tasks, such as file management. All commands can be executed manually from the interactive command shell, as well as automatically from a script. The command line syntax for the TBOSDT program itself is as follows:

tbosdt [script]

If a script filename is given, TBOSDT will execute the script. If not, it will start up in interactive mode where commands can be executed manually, one at a time. TBOSDT is supplied in three OS versions; Windows, DOS,
and Linux.

Requirements

Operating System: Windows (all NT-based versions 4.0 or later), DOS, or Linux

Still some work to do:

Known Limitations

TBOSDT currently cannot delete or rename files and directories residing on mounted NTFS partitions, nor can it directly open and access Linux file systems. This functionality will be added in an upcoming version.

Think of it as a replacement to the windows Command Processor (cmd.exe) with an incredible number of added (INTERNAL) features, expecially dealing with partitions, volumes, and the Registry.
It can also virtually mount fiesystems on file:

TBOSDT has the ability to OPEN (or MOUNT) partitions on physical hard drives, as well as file systems contained within a file – such as an ISO file, or a file containing an image of a floppy diskette or hard drive.

To this you add a new, seemingly very powerful, scripting language and you have the perfect tool that would go with this:
http://www.boot-land...?...ic=3717&hl=
(yes, I tried it in the reduced environment and at least the very basics seem to work)

And that is the end of the good news.

The License is a non-renewable TRIAL, rather restrictive, when it comes to us "hobbyists":

1. LICENSE:

(a) TRIAL USE IN YOUR OWN COMPUTER

(i) YOU MAY: use the Evaluation Software for evaluation
purposes in your own computer, for a period not to exceed
thirty (30) days after your first installation or use of the
Evaluation Software. You may not re-install or additionally
install the Evaluation Software for additional evaluation
periods.

(ii) Not "Free Software". This Evaluation Software is
not "free software", but a software copy with limited
license rights, as set forth in this Agreement.

(iii) Temporary Evaluation Use Only. You may use this
Evaluation Software without charge for a limited time only,
and solely to decide whether to purchase a paid license for
the software from TeraByte. If you wish to use the
Evaluation Software after the thirty (30) day evaluation
period, then you must purchase a Full Use license for the
software from TeraByte. You can visit TeraByte's web site at
www.terabyteunlimited.com, for further information.

(iv) NO CONTINUED USE WITHOUT REGISTRATION.
Unregistered use of the Evaluation Software after the thirty
(30) day trial period is an infringement of TeraByte's legal
and equitable rights, including but not limited to copyright
and trade secret rights, under U.S. and international laws.

Though redistribution by INDIVIDUALS in unmodified form is allowed, the one-time-only 30 days trial makes it impossible to be used without paying for a license, thirty days may be the time needed to actually try to understand the basic features, at the moment I cannot even find a price for a Full license.

IF it comes out cheap enough to be affordable it could be very useful for a number of installing or recovery chores.

Huge bump! :w00t:

The thingy is now Freeware for personal, non-commercial use! :smiling9:
http://www.terabyteu...dt.htm#download

And now there is an additional script for the thingy to allow XP booting from USB! :)

Definitely worth more than a "passing by look".
