Your first question I cannot answer.
To your second question:

I use NVU since years.
(If you have a look to native.boot-land.net, that is made by NVU)

It is free and handles the standard HTML functionality as well as upload to your server.

It does not have shells and whistles like animation etc.

The simplest way is by VNC, you won't even need a webpage. Some VNC clients have a java client.
If i remember right, UltraVNC is one of them.
All you have to do is install the VNC server on your machine and enable webserver.
Now, whenever you try to connect to your own Computer, it will ask for a login and send you the java client if you don't already have it.

PS: You will of course need a static IP or a dynamic DNS.

You need to be a bit more specific about what exactly you need.

First - I think you want to access your computer from the Internet

To solve this matter you can install a dynDNS service that can be found here: http://www.dyndns.co...ces/dns/dyndns/

It's free and consists on a program that you install on your computer and it will let the dyndns service know what is the IP you're using.

--------------------------------------------

Second - You will need to transform your computer onto a web server - it's easy..

Download xampp from here: http://www.apachefri...pp-windows.html

There is also a small tutorial showing you exactly how to set up xampp here: http://www.boot-land...p?showtopic=728

---------------------------------------------

Using these two apps you make your website available to the world - and everyone will be able to visit it by typing http://yoursite.dyndns.org

For editing I also recommend NVU as Peter mentioned - very simple to use and a good overall tool.

------------

Some templates (free) can be found here: http://www.2createaw.../templates.html

----------

Later you may also want to buy a domain and then redirect this domain to your dyndns.org service to have a more friendly URL.

If you don't want to spend money - you can always use some free service like .pt.vu (I know it's in pt, don't know any other similar free service, sorry) http://www.pt.vu/step1.php - They also offer .site.vu or .page.vu redirections.

----------

If you want to use VNC to remotely control your computer from anywhere using only a web-browser then you can install the VNC server on your computer and then visit the java applet page to enter inside your machine (you only need to enter the address of your dyndns.org domain)

Very cool: http://www.realvnc.c...avncviewer.html

----------------------------

Good luck - I'm still learning a lot about this myself so I hope more people can help and mention better methods.

Also, to expand upon Nuno's excellent post. MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE YOUR FIREWALL CONFIGURED CORRECTLY!!!! I cannot tell you how many people I've seen run IIS or other web servers (xampp is very good, BTW ), and have their entire network hijacked from bad firewall configs.

Hmm...maybe I should be more specific of the needs of this website I'd like to make. I'll start off by telling you that my school has some padlock thing on the computers which blocks many websites I'd like to go to...including this website. So what I wan't to do is make a website (where I constantly change the name of) where you can signup and umm....take control of a virtual pc kind of thing where you could go through the internet using that internet, not the schools internet. It's hard for me to explain cause i'm not sure i'm saying anything right. But the main goal is to kind of have an anonymous proxy...like https://www.vtunnel.com ...I use to use that to get to blocked websites but they found out about it. So I guess I would also like to know is how do they find out and how can I prevent it from happening?

Hmm..

I won't discuss the Administrator's policy for blocking sites of such fine quality as ours () but you should be aware that most times they can track down every website you visit if a proxy is used to connect onto the internet.

http://en.wikipedia....ki/Proxy_server

This proxy server will log all actions and the admin can later decide wether to block or not each site he finds restricted.

On our case - I wonder if he confused "boot" with something rated..

----

We've got a proxy machine some time ago around here and the technician told us it was "state-of-the-art" in terms of blocking undesirable sites since it had a huge list - as a test - he asked me to try to enter a rated site to see it in action.

So I tried typing playboy.com and the proxy worked right away blocking the site - nevertheless opening google.com, typing the same playboy.com on the search box, click to view results and view the cached page - rendered a full 1024x768 image of what people shouldn't see on their workplace (at work time at least)

I asked him: Should we block google?

---

If it wasn't a school computer I'd say to install Hamachi since it is very easy to setup - the method I've described above will grant you full access to your home machine but there will always be the risk of being blocked.

My best advice: Talk with the admin.

Explain him your idea and promisse that you'll use this permission with moderated responsability - in most cases they'll help and it's much better than tampering the school machine restrictions and risk getting yourself into troubles and avoid this cat & mouse game.

---

Some other anonymous proxy tools are available - althought I have the impression they'll also get blocked really quick by your admin.

Still recommend you to talk with your network responsable if possible to see what they can do in this case.

You are a great help to me. I really don't understand much about "creating" my own stuff as you can tell by now but If I can get help from anyone (or you Nuno Brito) that would be even better. And for asking the admin...I'll wait a little longer to see else others have to say. Also throwing this out there...I don't need to have a really good computer to start off right? I'd like to start small and make my way up there.

I run my own site with a copy of Windows Server 2003, IIS 6.0 and .NET 3.0.

I'm using an ASP.NET page developer.

For you purposes, i suggest the search engine proxy Nuno mentioned. They can't block it without bloccking the search engine as well.

For more privacy set up a https server/proxy on your home computer.
Connect to the internet before you go to school, and write down your IP.

Now you have your own secure proxy with an ever changing IP. (unless, of course, you have a static IP  )
