Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has successfully booted ERD commander from a flash drive/usb stick? (simply by itself, not multiboot)
I have been trying using the usual BartPE type methods but cannot get it to run.

Also I would prefer to boot it into RAM if possible (tried this method without success http://www.911cd.net...howtopic=19333)

Thanks for any help all!

Have you used win2003 ramdisk files? :yahoo:

ERD commander is a modified winpe 1.x version, shouldn't be very hard to make it boot - what are the error messages you get?

You could also try to adapt the ERD tools to fit your custom PE boot disk - maybe easier since there already available some documentation for this task and you can also include more tools.

:)

This is not an answer - just some (hopefully) handy information to consider.

I haven't heard of newer versions of ERD working with BartPE or other PE environments besides its own. ERD 2003 seems to work well. I've seen ERD 2003 BartPE plugins floating around the web.
http://www.bootcd.us...ander-2003.html
http://www.911cd.net....php?t2538.html Sometimes you have to double-check that the DZIP32.DLL and DUNZIP32.DLL are actually present in the ERD folder. Every now and then they just don't show up *shrugs*

You can replicate most of the ERD functionality for free with these utilities:

FreeCommander = ERD Explorer File manager
http://www.freecommander.com/

Salas Password Renew = Locksmith
http://www.kood.org/...password-renew/

FileACL = Reset Permissions as in ERD Explorer
http://www.gbordier....ols/fileacl.htm
Please note FileACL is a command line program. Newer versions also need the WORKSTATION service to be running.

Registry Restore Wizard = ERD System Restore (sort of)
http://www.bootcd.us...ore-Wizard.html
Does not restore files from the system restore folder.. not useful enough for my taste..

I get the following error:

File \i386\system32\ntoskrnl.exe could not be loaded.
Error code 14

This file is physically not there, and adding it gets another error anyway. I am using 2k3 ramdisk.sys,ntdetect.com and ntldr

Any other ideas??

Try bulding using BartPE with either

ERD2005 Plugin
http://www.911cd.net...showtopic=16761

or

ERD2003 Plugin
http://www.bootcd.us...ander-2003.html

and then use PEtoUSB with the result:
http://gocoding.com/....php?al=petousb

PEtoUSB does not work with bootloaders like BCDW or GRUB4DOS. It strictly puts the bootloader in from the BartPE disc. In addition, it seems to check to make sure the source folder is made with BartPE. If we knew what files it checks for maybe it could be adapted to WinBuilder..

I haven't tested erd2005 but I'm sure it is same with erd2007 which I've tried.
This is very simple way because erd uses ntldr to boot from.
1. put ntdetect.com, ntldr(setupldr.bin from 2k3), winnt.sif, erd.iso in root.
2. call ntldr, that's it.
But it is read only format.

You can shrink erd.iso to erd.is_ with makecab.exe. (from 145mb to 63mb :loleverybody: )

Good luck :w00t:
