Hello folks!

Found a nifty little applet by the name of MD5click.exe in the toolbox for WinBuilder; and was wondering who came up with it.

Silly as it sounds, nobody seems to have taken the trouble to make a friendly little MD5 checker applet (with an actual GUI) for the freeware crowd before: Would like to pass it on to others if I could :1st:

Yes? No? EULA???

(Just a couple more options, and it could be a great addition to the collection over at NoNags :thumbup: )

THANKS!

Nuno can give more info on this proposition and and how it should be distributed.

Glad you've liked it - I've done it almost an year ago when we were having issues with packages that weren't well downloaded.

It's completely free, which options would you like to see included?

With all due respect for Nuno and the MD5click.exe app :thumbup:, I would also be curious what features are needed and what a MD5 checking utility is needed for. :1st:

I mean, there must be a few dozens of freeware MD5 checking utilities, of which, say, one third of them are GUI ones.

This one is a simple one that "weights" 22 Kbytes:

@jaclaz:

Apart from the link which you provided to diamondcs, I've not ever been able to locate a good MD5 app with a GUI in the freeware realm...

As to what they're useful for; well, try downloading OpenOffice over dialup -- it's not nice, and it's always good to check whether or not your copy has gotten corrupted (mutilated) through the phone lines on the way.

It's also a great way of telling whether or not a particular file which has been split for transmission in smaller chunks reassembles properly when it gets to its final destination :thumbup:

As to what features would be desirable; well, I really like the idea of "send to" integration for the little program, but having a menubar with some selectable features put there might be nice. Just a matter of style, but have the send to option checkable on a drop-down; an "about" with a credit screen for Nuno would look nice; and maybe a button to send the raw MD5 to the clipboard would be helpful, too.

A FANTASTIC feature (probably a lot more work than Nuno wants to put into it) would be "Compare Files"; provided to check either a pasted MD5 hash against a selected file or one file against another :thumbup:

Just some thoughts for what might be a neat little app to carry some free advertising about the WinBuilder forum to the freeware community. I think it'd be great on NoNags!!!

Again, fun is what it's all about here -- maybe something like this would help spread the word :1st:

THANKS!

Knowing what you want to do is half way to get a task completed.

At the moment it's a bit dificult to get my hands back into it, but I will try to add it as soon as I can.

I don't really care much for About boxes, just happy to see an app being used is more than enough for me.

@Nuno Brito:

:thumbup:

I just got back from a trip over to NoNags; and it looks as if they have a few apps which do something with MD5s -- I guess it's been a little while since I looked.

BUT, much of the MD5 stuff which they have over there is a bit confusing to use, is large, needs to be installed, etc. So, I still think that a little, lightweight app with features like what I mentioned above would get 6/6 over there if you ever wanted to do it :1st:

Thanks again, and have a great day!

Again, not to put down Nuno's prog in the least :1st:, just to show the kind of "offer" present in the "Freeware" world:

@Nuno, this one has also a few other interesting Delphi Components and includes sources:
