Symantec Ghost 11 script

Besides using parameter file, you can also use parameters in shortcuts. I have only 1 option for that in my script (not ready yet), i will add more . It seems to me more easy to use parameters in shortcut (or batch file) than using different parameter files.
ps: I am a livexp user, here ghost32.exe is always in X:\Program Files\Ghostxxx\ghost32.exe
for more portable solution, you can put some batch files to ghost32.exe directory for same purpose with different settings (either with parameter file or with parameter besides ghost32.exe line)

If so, the shortcut will always (?) be:
"x:\cd Program Files\ghost\ghost32.exe"
starting in "x:\Program Files\ghost"
with parameters @f:\backup.txt
If this is correct, the solution should not be too difficult.
Wondering... if you check drive letters and adjust each time, do you need to save the changes to the backup.txt, or could it be loaded in RAM each time and the changes not saved? Much easier to find if it is in x:.

The path in VistaPE seem to be the same:
you are right with your assumption but I want to adjust the stick/parameter file only once and the adjustment should be saved in the parameter file. My Problem is that my colleagues are not that familiar with ghost. They just want to click somewhere and it works!
The other thing is that I need the parameters because we have encrypted disks. And from my point of view I have to pass parameters to ghost which are not default.
I think I have to use a parameter file because each parameter has to be in a separate line. Because I was used to it, I started to use in VistaPE the same way. So if you have a solution to pass more than one parameter via a shortcut or all in one batchfile that would be great.
Thanks a lot for this "realtime" chat! I really appreciate your help

because i am not familiar with using parameter file with ghost, Just a simple question:
Assuming ghost32.exe and backup.txt are in same directory
is using this in batch file (ghostbackup.cmd) is right ?

Add_Shortcut,[Type],[Folder],[FullFileName],[Title],[Work Folder],[Parameters],[IconFile( .ico .exe)],[StartMode(1, 2, 3, or 4)]
- Type - type of shortcut destination (StartMenu, Desktop or AutoStart)
- Folder - program category
- FullFileName - full path to executable, if you use standard path %ProgramFolder%, you need write "%PE_Programs%\%ProgramFolder%\test.exe", %PE_Programs% will be automatically changed to program folder and you need change test.exe to right executable name.
- Title - program name
- Work Folder - program work folder (similar to rules of FullFileName)
- Parameters - running parameters
- IconFile - full path to icon file (similar to rules of FullFileName)
- StartMode - mode of program window
- 1 - normal window
- 2 - minimize
- 3 - maximize
- 4 - hide (not support at this time)
So, I think you need to insert a line like:
Add_Shortcut,Desktop,,"x:\Program Files\ghost\ghost32.exe","Click Here for Backup","x:\Program Files\ghost",@f:\backup.txt,,1
... no 'cd' in the path ...
EDIT: but nice to have a backslash!

you are right with the cmd!
I will try to add that line to my script. I'll let you know the result.

thanks a lot for that link! Your code line works very well.
Now I am able to create the backup and the restore icon!
now I can follow your idea. If it is possible to check the computer environment and ask the user for source and target (DVD, Tape, and of course HD) the user has to make the decision not the developer.
I am looking forward to your script. In the meantime I can help my colleagues.
Again Thanks a lot, many greetings to Turkiye and Australia

oki, i make last touches to my script and now online to try
In script There are examples of parameter usage, including your demand.
You can easly increase parameter files, i put 1 with giving name parameter1.txt
Play with it for a while, i am sure you will figure out how to do what you want.

Thank you, with your contribution script updated including a .html help file for a list of ghost switches.
I guess we can not list all usages, , imagine also the combinations , but better to have some frequent switches at hand and a small list
if you have other ideas , i can add them too

Sometimes we need to do an instant ghost of a partition.. and we don',t need to have all hardware recognition, but only the disk partitions...

New "Ghost.script" in attachment contains an encoded "Ghost.7z" archive with all needed files inside (0 bytes) in order to reach hoped for better exemplification.
Is there any way to build out this script for win7pe? I've tried countless times to get it to work even used and combined other scripts, but it just wont work?
