I've downloaded the latest WinBuilder and installed WAIK to create VistaPE. I didn't get any errors while creating the iso bat if i try to boot it, it boots to black screen, i see the cursor and a moment later i get a blue screen. The same problem is then i try to boot the iso in VirtualPC 2007

Here is a screenshot of VirtualPC:

Ora viva!

You can start by reading this topic here: http://www.boot-land...reen-t1886.html

And see all the proposed solutions and necessary conditions to ensure you create your project correctly.

Don't forget post your log - even thought you didn't had any errors it would still be good to have something to look into since there are some details that might often pass ignored.

In resume, try:
  • Use a shorter path like c:\WinBuilder
  • Run your project from a NTFS partition (needed for WIM handling)
  • Disable antivirus while running the project (Avast sometimes interfers on file copying for example)
If all the above fail, also use the complete stable package from vistaPE's site here:
http://vistape.boot-...008up2-base.rar

Unpack inside another empty folder and use it as base for testing.

Good luck - if you have doubts and prefer to write in portuguese, just follow the link on my signature.

Thank you!

I downloaded the version 005 of VistaPE. It works fine but all versions from 006 to 008 don't work on my computer. I've decided just to download the version 008 and try to update the scripts to find out where the problem is. I'll post the news as soon as possible.

This is really interesting - we really need more people helping with the testings.

Have you tried on a smaller folder like c:\winbuilder?

Please post your log to see more details. :1st:

i used a shorter path for winbuilder(c:\winbuilder).

i tried to create the version 006 of vistape again and compared the logs in version 006 some drivers for windows were not copied. i'll try to modify the script so that the version 006 will work, too.

Here are the logs:

Log of the version 005

Log of the version 006

Hi, thanks for posting the logs - could you use a more recent wb version like 070?

You can find it here: http://boot-land.net/winbuilder

Not sure if it will make many differences, but should remove a possible reason out of the way.

Can you use a Vista DVD as source?

thank you for the link of the new winbuilder, i'll try to build the versions with it. i use a vista dvd as source because the version 005 of vistape doesn't support WAIK. And i used the vista dvd with the version 006 of vistape, too

I found out where the error was. I used a false vista dvd as source. It was a demo version of 2006.
I build the version 006 of vistape and i had just two errors! But i haven't tested it yet. Thanx you for help!
I'll try to build the version 008 and i'll post the logs.

could you explain the "demo" version of the CD, I am having the same initial issues as I start to play with Vista builds. I have been somewhat quiet recently with other projects and, as I noticed that there are many people working on my "multiboot" options, I have decided to play with VistaPE and possibly be a tester rather than a "Hack" developer... :yahoo:

I like the grub option on VistaPE and BCDW on NativePE so I don't see a need to re-invent the wheel.

I will take a look at your logs and that will be helpfull to me.

Currently I am using an express upgrade version of Vista on my laptop and have not installed it. I am running XP Pro on an NTFS with short filenames... no AV.

Cheers,
Jamykid

The "demo" is a version of vista which i tested in year 2006. it wasn't the final version and it was cut with VLite. But the situation didn't changed. I tested the project vistape 006/007/008 and i haven't any errors! but if i try to boot it, get a blue screen. the version 005 of vistape works fine. The differens between the version 006 and 005 of vistape is that in the version 005 the boot.wim is extracted into the target folder and in the version 006 or higher, the boot.wim is mounted into the src-folder and the files which are needed for vistape are copied from the src-folder into the target folder.

I downloaded the newest winbuilder and vistape and built it. i didn't have any errors but it looks like this:Posted Image

and in virtual pc:

i tried to build the newest version of vistape and i checked "pack boot.wim" in the finilizing script and it works! i build the newest vistape without any errors and without a bluescreen! The problem now is that i get always an error then i try to start a program in vistape. The drive d: cannot be found. I just tested it in virtualpc but not on a real hardware.
