As many of you know the usual way to have a WIM with some programs preinstalled is basically deploy it, install the programs and recapture it, long and tedious process.

I have been trying to find some way to install some small programs to a WIM image file and all info found is usually about using Dism to install Updates, lang packs or .Net framework packages, but finally I found an intersting article about the possible use of Runscanner 2 Script to do it, and wanted to share it with all of you:

Runscanner - Not tested

WinBuilder has a RunScanner module that you can use to trick non aware application to execute in a different context.

Note: I have not tested this!

You could potentially mount the WIM/ESD file, and use RunScanner to execute the app in the context of the mounted WIM/ESD file.

After the install has completed, you should be able to un-mount the image and commit it.

Remember, this is untested as I don't normally use RunScanner. Use at your own risk!

NOTE: This Script is included on Win10XPE.

The article was about installing Apps, but the third option mentioned (and Quoted here) seems to me can be usefull for installing other programs, this is the page with last version of the Runscanner Script: http://www.paraglide...pts/scripts.htm

Info to use the Script:

Spoiler

Source of the info to use the Script: http://www.paraglide...Runscanner2.htm

The author of the article clearly states he hasn't tested it yet.

This may be a usefull trick to preinstall some small programs on our WIM before apply it.

I'm still reading the use of all the many parameters availables on Runscanner 2
