We are creating diskless boot . We are booting from official windows 10 pro  with dhcp, tftp, ipxe.

And have problems .  After reboot we have a blue screen with error. We think it is because all computers that booting with our windows have a same computer names. How to fix that? We need to version of windows that can after boot give a every user an unique computer name, not same.

Hi,

(Expecting this first post is a not a spam...).

I dont think having the same computername would cause a BSOD.

You can consider different ways to change the computername.

Thus, you may want to take a step back and see how you can prevent this even before booting your image.

Is it one unique image for all?

Is it a PE like image or a full windows image?

Regards,

Erwan

Thank you for reply  . Yeah we share one ssd with installed on it full windows to other  computers with iscsi  protocol .  We checked also with PE version and it worked like a charm . PE version have Penetwork on it and it gives for each computer different  computer name after lunch . And  we supposed that full version not working because of same name . We cant use PE version to this project because we cant install windows on every launch . We also need to save to cache  user data . So I think we cant do this with PE . This soft for cyber cafe .  Now problem with Full version windows is in the second launch   with more than one computer all of them start automatical recovery . And it recovery infinitely.

Have you considered using a master/parent vhd and differencing/child disks ?
Master could be in sysprep mode so that each child on first reboot get a unique random computer name.

Your bsod is not about the computer name but rather about disk corruption.
Multiple users writing to the same filesystem...

What you advice to avoid disk corruption ?

My advice is to not have N clients booting the same unique disk.

Proposed solution :

-create a "master" parent VHD

-install windows 10 over ipxe/iscsi to this master disk

-create children (i.e differencing) disks of the master (i.e parent) disk

-to each network client, propose a children disk (based on the mac adress of the client for example)

I have "blogged" about this here (boot diskless computers over the network with differencing virtual hard disks) :

-Having fun with StarWind Virtual SAN Free and differencing virtual disks

-Having fun with StarWind Virtual SAN Free and differencing virtual disks #1

-Having fun with StarWind Virtual SAN Free and differencing virtual disks #2

-Having fun with StarWind Virtual SAN Free and differencing virtual disks #3

Most, if not all tasks, can be automatized which can be a possible solution for a cyber café.

I also suggest you rename your title as the challenge here is not about computername.
