In the portable and mini windows created by the above the size of the winsxs folder has been reduced from GBs to approx 110MB (compressed). How does one decide what to retain in that folder?
I'm trying to make a compact Win 10 32-bit. The uncompressed size now is 5.8GB of which 3.4GB is the winsxs folder.
Can someone guide me in reducing the size that folder.

I duplicated what @wimb has done for portable Win7. Succeeded in getting a 2.5GB Win10 - I might be able to trim it further, able to boot from memory and with PAE enabled. Looks like this :

Nice. How did you decide which files to keep in Winsxs?
Did you attempt something similar on Win 7 which has been updated with all the latest hotfixes?

I only kept the same files as in Compact Win8 by @wimb. But that's not a 'good' way. Since then I used NTLite to create a stripped Win10 x86. Used that to create the mini W10. Manually deleted some files (not in WinSxS).
Yes, I have been using Win7 Portable by @wimb for a loooong time. Can't do without it.
