Dear All,

I tried to lan boot windows 10 by using ipxe and iscsi and it worked nice without any problem. This shows ipxe can boot and work fine with windows 10. I never expected this easy with windows 10, as the version goes up it gets complicated i thought about windows 10.

Important: But boot mgr should be of same version other wise it throws different kinds of error while loading.

care to share your instructions?

win10_localdisk --clone--> linux iscsi target block device (resulted in "preparing automatic repair")

win10 direct install to linux iscsi target block device (resulted in "inaccessible boot device") if i remember correctly.

As for clone, windows 7 will work fine, but windows 8 and 10 requires to be installed in vhd.

First install windows 10 to vhd as "windows10.vhd'

Disable the LWF Driver in registry or by bind tool. You can find the information how to do this in some forum here in reboot.pro

Create a iscsi target and iscsi disk

Then copy the "windows10.vhd" into the iscsi disk

Using "easybcd" deploy bcd in iscsi disk

Then link the windows10.vhd in newly created bcd.

As The iSCSI Boot Firmware Table (iBFT)  for sure creates the problem you mentioned. So the only way is to install to vhd and process as i said. By this way nothing is disturbed in boot process of windows 10

The main thing is you should be using the same windows 10 version while you are deploying the bcd using easy bcd software.

Because bcd and bootmgr  should be the same version.

As this will vary between windows 7, 8, and 10.

As for direct install to iscsi I have not succeeded.

thanks for the good information. does this mean that since its vhd format, i cannot use a linux iscsi target? windows-based iscsi target is necessary for vhd files, right?

Yes, But you can check with starwind iscsi target as it may support. You should be using windows iscsi Target for vhd. As far as i know linux doesn't support it directly.

Windows 2008 r2 trail version and iscsi target free version both matches and works even better than any software without problem.

And also you can create as many differencing vhd and can boot as many machines you want using single vhd as master and others as child in seconds.

Interesting part is, even you can memory load windows xp, 7 or windows 10 if you have enough ram to support by using grub4dos from iscsi target.

You can also load wim or iso from windows iscsi.
