Hi Everybody!

 

I just discovered your forum and I would like to try if you can help me with an issue!

 

I have a 8.1 Toshiba Laptop. I kept my last laptop's HDD which was Win7. I bought an external case so I could acess it through USB. That went ok.

 

BUT, I really want to boot from that Win7 external HDD and use it as if I was on my last laptop. Is it possible?? I tried to change the boot priorities to boot from USB, but it is ignored and it always boots the 8.1!

 

Do you have any solution for this??

Hai, Its really simple. Go to link of Boot from USB / Boot anywhere. There you find tons of example that succeed doing this.

For example if you want to do this, capture your installed 7 to vhd file format like ghost .Disable light weight filter driver. Copy that vhd to any hard disk. Link the boot manager to the vhd. That's all.

Hey!! Thank you so much for replying! I will take a peek on that link, even after I searched so much for some way to do this but none of it did work. But can you explain to me what you mean by "Disable light weight filter driver"? I did not know about this vhd type, just googled it!

But the above mentioned is for new copy. For existing you to do as i said early.

Light weight filter driver is known as NDIS Lightweight Filter driver. This should disabled for successful VHD BOOT.

I don't understand your questions, which leads me to think that I am quite noobish..

 

I don't know if my PC uses UEFI. When I turn the laptop on, it goes straight to Win 8.1, so I don't know if I can press any hotkey. If I do recall it, to enter in safe mode, for example, I have to go to startup opcions on win 8.1 and change... I will restart my PC and see if I can use any hotkey

UPDATE:
When I boot my Win 8.1 laptop, it goes straight to win 8.1 without any chance of using any hotkey. So I guess we can assume it has UEFI...?

A couple years ago, things were more easy, like different boots, safe mode boots, ... Now things are so weird... I'm new to this Win 8.1, I dont like it...

Yes, you have to select USB boot at hardware level.

A UEFI secure boot machine may present a USB BIOS/MBR disk. Or not.
Different hardware behaves different.

Windows is another question.
Most likely USB drivers are not loaded so far.A Windows 7 bsod 0x7b would be a first success.
Make one step after one step.
