trying to boot kali linux 1.0.9a -amd64 for hours now.

tryied googling but not getting anything. so came here for a readymade solution.

a .mnu file that i keep in the same folder with .iso..please.please.

i tried creating .mnu after copying sample of 1.05/1.07 with kali64-rw in root

but its not helping with this pericular version.

the PER entry is not working... my USB is sdb but there is no sdb3(PF= and PERS= also not working)

i know i am missing something...but what?

Thanks in advance

Hi iftek

Help us out by posting the .mnu file you are using.

As I recall, I was never able to get persistence to work for me, as you can see from my notes below.
Also this was an earlier version, things may have changed in the new release.
I had to actually burn a cd, and then install to the appropriate location.

Here's how I boot it after a full install.
Change the (hd#,#) below to reflect your partition layout.

title =============== Kali Linux =========
root

#     *** NOTES ***
# I want to install this to ptn 3 ext4, must install from cd.
# a flat file copy to sda3 stops at init, install from cd\(0xff) fails in grub, must use real cd

title Kali Linux amd64
map (hd0,1)/_ISO/kali-linux-1.0.5-amd64.iso (0xff) || map --mem (hd0,1)/_ISO/kali-linux-1.0.5-amd64.iso (0xff)
root (hd0,2)
map --hook
# root (0xff)
# kernel /live/vmlinuz username=root hostname=kali locale=en_us.UTF-8 keyb=us
# kernel /live/vmlinuz boot=live noconfig=sudo username=root hostname=kali locale=en_us.UTF-8 keyb=us
kernel /live/vmlinuz --ignore-floppies live-media-path=/live boot=live noconfig=sudo username=root hostname=kali locale=en_us.UTF-8 keyb=us splash noprompt vga=791
initrd /live/initrd.img
# initrd /live/initrd * starts installer *

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Regards
RoyM

Why not just use something like dd/Win32DiskImager, etc to create a standard USB? Last time I recall doing so, persistance was an available option in the boot menu.

You can then use RMPrepUSB to convert the USB into a .img drive image, which can then be booted with Easy2Boot (if you plan to go that route). I'm not sure if persistence would work in this scenario, since every time I created a Kali USB I always had the intention of installing it to HDD, rather than running it as a live distro.

Instructions are in the 1.0.7 .mnu file - e.g. make a persistence.conf file - did you follow them?
