mini PCs based on Intel's Atom SoC "APM-D01"

"APM-D01"

http://techreport.co...f-a-thumb-drive

usb-atom.jpg

http://www.techspot....r-than-usb.html

http://www.overclock...f-a-thumb-drive

The "APM-D01" measures only 3.9" x 1.5" x 0.38" (100 x 38 x 9.6 mm) and weighs just 1.6 oz (46 g), but its internals wouldn't look out of place inside a much larger tablet. The micro machine is available with a choice of quad-core Atom Z3735F or Z3735G processors from the Bay Trail generation. Both chips are clocked at 1.33GHz with a 1.83GHz burst frequency. The "F" is limited to 1GB of RAM at 5.3GB/s, while the "G" can address 2GB of memory at 10.6GB/s.

In addition to being available with different CPU-and-memory combos, the device comes with 16GB or 32GB of internal flash storage. Otherwise, all the versions have identical specs: one HDMI output (male), one Micro SD slot, dual Micro USB 2.0 ports, and both 802.11n and Bluetooth 4.0. I see what looks like a full-sized USB port on one edge, but it's not mentioned on the official product page. That page does, however, indicate that the system can run Android, Windows 8.1, and Linux.

Quad-core Bay Trail chips have enough pep for light desktop work, HTPC duties, and even casual gaming, so having one squeezed into something roughly the size of a Chromecast is pretty appealing. Similar ARM-based Android sticks do exist, of course, but they can't run Windows.

Unfortunately, getting your hands on one of these might prove problematic. Although the device is listed on Alibaba, it's only available in 500-unit quanties. At least the "US $1-70/piece" price range suggests the sticker should be low if these things eventually turn up stateside. Thanks to CNX Software for the tip.

Not really-really (at least theoretically) you can buy also one (single piece) for US$ 110 + shipping:
http://www.aliexpres...2044898752.html

and it is US$ 60.50/apiece in 500 units bulks.

It is $99 for the 16GB and $109 for the 32GB version at http://www.dx.com/p/...-eu-plug-361931 They don't have the 32 GB version with the US plug but it looks like the power supply is a USB type and most will probably have a spare one around to charge their phone/tablet.  I doubt the TV's USB port will provide enough power to run this.  Even the Amazon Fire TV stick recommends using their power supply instead of the TV's for stability.

my main questions are:

is this BIOS or EFI? surely EFI but maybe BIOS option?

grub4dos compatible?

and how difficult would it be to install XP on it as primary? or W7?

MeeGo Pad T01 Windows 8.1 Stick Review

http://www.gizchina....pad-t01-review/

About its dual boot capabilities, the device was advertised that way when it first burst on to the scene last November. However, the Android build for the stick is apparently unstable at the moment, which explains why the MeeGo Pad T01 comes with only Windows 8.1 and no Android.

How much does Microsoft make from PC makers with Windows 8.1?

http://www.zdnet.com...th-windows-8-1/

Understanding Windows 8.1 Licenses with MeegoPad T01 (and Other Intel Atom Bay Trail mini PCs)

MeegoPad T01 was initially announced as a dual boot Windows 8.1 and Android 4.4 HDMI Stick, and it became quite popular. But as it has recently started shipping, Android is gone, and people who receive it only have Windows 8.1 to play with. Unfortunately, as the review embedded at the end of this post clearly indicates it’s running with a Windows 8.1 trial version

Seems Meegopad is comparable to the Intel® Compute Stick specs.

MeeGoPad T01 Intel Atom Bay Trail , Microsoft Windows 8.1 OS TV Stick - Quad-Core CPU, 2GB RAM, 32GB Internal Memory, Bluetooth, HDMI Interface

Just received the MeeGoPad T01 32GB Windows 8.1 Factory activated Mini PC by buying it thru link on post #16 above

http://reboot.pro/to...linux/?p=190737

Havent booted it yet. Wanted to back it up before running it.

Tried the following, but no success booting into Pe yet

- trying to boot Windows 8.1 SE 32bit (not sure if it can boot into UEFI)
- 4 port USB Hub (Keyboard, Mouse, Usb stick - Windows 8.1 SE, Usb stick - for image backup )
- Boot press F7 to boot into Bios

Boot into BIOS by pressing “F7” after turning on the device
(Press and hold power button a bit to power on Meegopad Stick.
When power is on, a mini blue light should be lit on top back of Meegopad Stick.

Select the “UEFI: USB device” option from the BIOS menu

Please select boot device:
  Windows Boot Manager
UEFI: Sandisk cruzer facet 1.27 (this one has android, havent tried booting yet, but Windows 8.1 SE 32bit USB is not Showing, burned using Rufus, booted on Dell venue Pro in the past)
UEFI: PMAP  (Dont know what this is, What is PMAP?)
Enter Setup   = ENTER's the BIOS screen

Any suggestions. Will try some other things tomorrow if possible.
