I just saw that VHD_XP_Setup - Install XP in VHD - 85 by wimb climbed nearly to the top of the downloads number.

On the second view I have some concerns: Why is a file with about 16000 views downloaded 78000 times?

IMO up to 40, sometimes up to 70 percent downloads of the views look reasonable.

Maybe some bots have been very active here.

When you look through all downloads, similar situations can be found.

I suggest, that administration adjusts the download counter. That avoids new members thinking that they download a top file, even it is not.

BTW: wimb's file IMO is in the range of top.

Unfortunately there isn't much solution from our side to this problem you report.

We don't have the man-power to modify the downloads center, I doubt the software manufacturers have come up themselves with a solution for the problem. The only reachable solution would be restricting downloads to registered members, which would then backslash on a lot of people having to register just to download the files.

Another approach is to manually reset the download count for files that grow "un-naturally" in terms of downloads but this requires quite some effort to track and react.

I am not sure if I understand the issue. :dubbio:

If I post this link:
http://reboot.pro/fi...tall-xp-in-vhd/
and people click on it (thus initiating directly the download) wouldn't his count as "number of downloads" without any increase in visits on the page:
http://reboot.pro/fi...tall-xp-in-vhd/

I think Peter is worried that a given bot can just trigger several times the download procedure and this doesn't reflect a human behavior.

I think the number of downloads for VHD_XP_Setup should be now 8333 instead of 78333.

In the Top  Authors list my Total File Downloads should be decreased accordingly by 70000.

I noticed the sudden unusual change.
