Maybe relevant, a tutorial explaining how to write your own boot loader.

This tutorial is a simple walk through a hello world boot loader. This like any other boot loader has to obey a few rules.

A code example:

Who has floppy drives these days?

Why not use RMPrepUSB to write the boot sector to a USB Flash drive - use the  File->Drive button, select the 512-byte output file, File Start=0, Drive Start=0, Length=0.

The click on the QEMU button to test it.

I guess the purpose of the tutorial is not to test floppy drives my friend. :)

Perhaps you can write the author an email to suggest an update to more reachable hardware/software.
