GFX-Bootmenu issues

Best Answer Wonko the Sane , 23 April 2014 - 09:03 AM

Well, there are a few topics on GFX.

GFX (or gfxmenu or gfxboot) is a "graphical" mode of grub4dos.

You need to check the related pages/tutorials.

In any case, if you don't post your EXACT menu.lst entries, noone can help you spot what/where there is an issue.

READ THESE first:
http://diddy.boot-la...les/gfxmenu.htm

http://reboot.pro/to...s-for-grub4dos/

http://www.rmprepusb...aphical-menu-us

And check (JFYI):

http://reboot.pro/to...y-from-menulst/

More loosely, if all you want/need is a static background with a logo in it, without animations and such, it might be "enough" and "simpler" using a conventional "splashimage, see:

http://diddy.boot-la...iles/splash.htm

I dug around and did not see any topics on this.  If there is an existing topic on this please point me there.

This app works pretty easily, a little cumbersome in rendering, but not hard to figure out.  However, I can't get it to pass all my settings through to the build.  Maybe I am doing something wrong.

I want to use menu 3, a white back ground, and our company logo in the upper left corner.  It all looks perfect in the preview, I apply the settings, and run my build.  When I test, the background is black and the logo does not show.

I am using a white .PNG for the background and a 256-color bitmap for the logo.  all seems pretty simple to me, but maybe there is a better way??

Thanks for the help all.

wow.......something like this should not be so involved........

I ended up doing the splash screen, made my image, set as my desktop then captured.  but really i think the utility needs more work.

I would add that, if a static background is all that's required then it's worth checking out Steve's guide here. Diddy's guide is getting rather old and the instructions for the splashimage are for low resolution images with up to 14 colours - all that was supported in Grub4dos version 0.4.4 Final. Newer version of Grub4dos support much better quality images - and it's much easier to convert to bitmap than .xpm (even MS paint can handle this!).

Regards,

Misty
