A new Linux distribution is around the interwebs. Any of the good folks around here took the chance of trying it out for a drive yet?

My internet bandwidth is very limited so i won't be able to test it soon. It looks like a clone of Mac OS X to me.

Basic Info

Luna is based on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. As such, anything that works with Ubuntu 12.04 should work equally as well with elementary OS Luna. It's available in both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (amd64) versions. Both versions are identical other than the target processor type.

 

 

Now, if they had on the main page something like:

It would be clear to everyone what this distro is, and who it is aimed at. (like, as an example, "not me" )

 

OT, but not much, something that I find disturbing of this distro is that they do try to get US$ 10.00 for the download, that they do not explicit the size of the download (like many other more or less demented people distributing files, BTW) and that they use the stupid, senseless grey text on white unreadable text on their webpages.

I just wanted to know what are the general impressions from using the distro. Being built on top of Ubuntu is good, as long as the amazon spyware part gets disabled.

 

Was more interested to know exactly if they do manage to improve the look&feel when compared to another distro like Linux Mint.

I downloaded it and it appeared to me to be rather lackluster but adequate.

 

What I do is DL the ISO and install it to a virtual machine under Virtualbox and see if I like it.  I keep a VM around just for installs and evaluations like this. You CAN get a fair idea from just booting the lISO into LIVE mode but I find the actual installed OS a better representative of the experience.

Freya the next version seems much improved. Its in beta.

This guy seems excited about the update. Will keep an eye for release.
