Does anyone know of a user defined language file for grub4dos and grub4dos batch files?

I am attempting to make one so that when I edit a .lst file it will automatically load NotePad++ and understand the grub4dos syntax.

As I have never done it before I can just about get it to work but it needs some tweaking.

Attached is what I have so far.

Copy it to your C:\Program Files (x86)\Notepad++ folder and then use Language tab to select the User Defined language of grub4dos_45c.

You can tweak the settings, colours etc. by using Language - Define your Language and then loading the grub4dos045c file. You can see the keywords I have added, etc, and change them if you wish. if you have improved this xml, please post it!

Nice idea :thumbsup:

If I may, instead of Notepad++ it would be nice to have it in SciTe (as it is available for BOTH Windows and Linux):

http://www.scintilla.org/SciTE.html

and the syntax for the parser add-on is seemingly easier :unsure:

:cheers:

I was editing my (GRUB2) grub.cfg file on my Windows machine in Notepad++ and thought about needing a language, at least for code folding that I like to use, but also syntax highlighting might make coding faster as well.

I swear I took advantage of this feature before when editing the same file, maybe on another Windows install.

I tried out an existing language by right-clicking the left part of the status bar, Under S, selecting Shell, and ones "Unix script file" was shown at the bottom I had my syntax highlighting and code folding!

Maybe it would help you too.

There is a GRUB Legacy format that may be different enough where it won't work or look well; I haven't tested that.

If yours is more related to Windows scripting, maybe the B -> "Batch" language would help you more.

Using (portable apps) Notepad++ v7.3.3 32-bit, on Vistax64
I copied grub4dos045c.xml to:
?:\PortableApps\Notepad++\Portable\App\DefaultData\Config\plugins\Config
I changed colors slightly for my preference, once loaded in Notepad++, It Worked fantastic.
Do as Steve says and Select Language - Define you Language and then load the grub4dos045c file.

Thanks Steve.
NICE addition to toolbox.

P.S. I also liked Wonko's suggestion of Scite..
What a Wonderful world it would be if we could edit *.lst @ G4D CLI/GUI.

Hey Guys, Happy Fathers Day.
Regards
RoyM
