hello. i came here because i needed help getting rid of grub4dos. these are the events that led up to my problem:

i tried running a program i downloaded (my kaspersky scans showed that the exe and all related files were clean. kaspersky was wrong.) then, my computer stalled and became extremly laggy. kaspersky reported infection in my temp files.

parts of the kaspersky GUI where not responsive. mouseover and clicking on the tools i needed were not responsive, however i was i able to move back and forth between pages. by now kaspersky had started an "advanced disinfection", and reported that it detected an infection in temp

folder. as usual, the infected file didnt exist at the specified location.

the "advanced disinfection" finished.

pc then began to reboot.

now it is booting into "grub4dos".

how do i get it to boot into windows normally?

thanks in advance

jenson

Hi Jenson8264,

I would re apply a NT6 MBR using bootice for example.

Regards,

Erwan

If it boots into grub4dos, try a few commands to see if it will boot to Windows

e.g.

chainloader (hd0,0)+1

chainloader (hd0,1)+1

etc.

If that works, you can either make a menu.lst with that command in it, or clear the grub4dos boot sector using RMPrepUSB Ctrl+z, select hdd, Ctrl+B   or bootice.

If it doesn't work, I would try to investigate some more - e.g.

cat --hex (hd0)+1

cat --hex (hd0,0)+1

to see what the MBR and PBD had in them and post back here
