Firstly, I'm sorry if I didn't post under the correct category. Please forgive me.

Secondly, I don't want to start a "war" on this forum. If the information I found aren't correct, just remove this thread and so the problem is solved.

Today, while searching on the Internet, I happened to come across this link: https://flippa.com/2...-authority-site .

Now, some question appear:

  • Is reboot.pro for sale?
  • What will happen with this community after the sale and what changes it would cause ?
  • What is other members opinion?

Now, I should state clearly that since Nuno is the founder of this website and he still owns it, he has all the right to sell it or do whatever he wants. I just wanted to ask and to inform.

Thanks!

The flippa listing is directed to companies, not to individuals.

If a sale is indeed made, nothing happens to the community. Things around here stay the same with exception for the publicity banners. Similar to the acquisition of 911cd.net by R1soft.com and replacement of all adsense publicity with company exclusive promotion.

As for stepping down from the administration role, it has indeed been a long time on the admin position getting all the heat from whomever you can imagine. I'm perfectly fine in continuing as it is but I'd welcome some new blood to step up and shake up the dust to bring some innovation/action aboard so that I can focus in development chores, this is in fact what I enjoy doing.

So, just to clarify before the panic and troll waves begin: if any changes are to happen, they will happen. As far as I'm concerned, nothing will change across 2013.

Just for the record, Wonko (the Sane) has a "reserve opinion" on this ;).

For the moment, the usual reference to this:

is enough :whistling::

If a sale is indeed made, nothing happens to the community.

I'm remembering some events in German history.

1961 Mr. Ulbricht said "Niemand hat die Absicht, eine Mauer zu errichten" (No one has the intention of building a wall).

Reality: Some weeks later we had the wall.

1989 Mr. Kohl said "Die Deutsche Einheit kostet uns keinen Pfennig" (The German unit does not cost any penny)

Reality: Still today every German pays a "Solidatitätszuschlag" (Addon for solidarity) in addition to his taxes, for the costs of the German unit.

Peter

BTW:

I did not trust Mr. Ulbricht

I did not trust Mr. Kohl.

But I trust Mr. Brito

I thought the value of an url like reboot.pro was related to the money that the url makes.

reboot.pro (buy-it-now price) at $290.000 making $500/month (advertising)

then it would require 48.3 years to recover the investment. I really got completelly lost.

is the reserve price known?

The price does not depend on, how much money a site makes, but how much money one could make with it, given the current traffic and the level of brand (URL) awareness.

To simplify further the above, this same site may have a different value for someone that is producing PC's or accessories for them (hardware) or software and someone producing soft drinks, because members are not a good target or the market segment has been already fully occupied:

in that case I'm still having a hard time imagining someone able to repay $290K on a decent ammount of time with reboot.pro.

I'm keeping this topic open for discussion but keeping it outside of the front page to prevent panic on the masses. It might return to the front page one day but for now I think it would just cause more problems than bringing forth a productive conversation.

And now that we are off the record, I should explain that exists no real motivation in providing an "affordable" sale that someone can acquire. If someone really wants to give 300k for reboot then this would be fun and I'd go on retirement for the next 4 years, probably spend more time working on the projects that I enjoy coding, rather than just doing this on the weekends.  :)

In reality there exist more pressing interests behind the scenes such as setting an anchor value for the advertising negotiations and gathering feedback from experienced webmasters with a high anchor price helps a lot. For example, thanks to this price we get the site fully audited, revealing the problem with http://test.reboot.pro where spammers were having a party and slurping away the server resources (besides the downgrade on our domain reputation).

Then, there are also tips from other people that just mention things they would improve and brought some interesting connections. For example, one of the recommendations was to drop Google Adsense and try Google Ad Exchange as publicity alternative to see how it works out.

As for new blood on the administration staff, I really mean it when I say that this is needed either sooner or later. I wish that indeed more of my free time could be spent coding than administering, just that.

You appear like having a rather expensive way of life at 75K per year :dubbio:

Islands for sale in the Caribbean don't come cheap these days. Will have to rely on my savings and still work to get by.

Living on an island is scary for those of us who can't swim. :cold:
