Hi!

I tried to install it on my pendrive, but I always got the same errors:

"Error No configuration file found"

"no default or UI configuration directive found"

Tried both stable and beta version of SGD, but neither worked. Why wouldn't they work? What should I do?

Why wouldn't they work?
It is likely that they do work peerfectly but they are NOT "compatible" with XBOOT.
What should I do?
Learn how to add them manually to your multiboot stick, instead of relying on XBOOT.

It is IMHO unlikely that there will be any changes soon in XBOOT, see:

What do you mean by manually?

Actually I tried a number of tools but always got the same error. Th DD thing works, but I wanted both the beta and the stable SGD on the pendrive, because it looks like sometimes one works when the other doesn't.

Manually, like NOT using "tools".

I have to presume that by "tools" you mean things like XBOOT which is a "wrapper" about bootloaders such as Syslinux/Isolinux/memdisk and/or grub4dos.

Start by providing the EXACT links to the "super grub disk" you are referring to, I presume this one (which is based on GRUB2):
http://www.supergrubdisk.org/
but which actual files are you talking about?

Well, they're only two versions on the website. ( 1 2)

PS:

WTF? I've got a nondescriptive "You are not allowed to use that image extension on this community." message when I wanted to reply with quotes....

"Error No configuration file found"

"no default or UI configuration directive found"
These come from Syslinux not finding a config-file. I don't know anything about "XBOOT," but perhaps it isn't putting the config-file where it ought to be. Some example filenames you could look for are syslinux.cfg, isolinux.cfg, extlinux.conf.

Loading the iso in a disc with grub4dos works:

menu.lst entry:

title super_grub2.iso
map /grub/super_grub2.iso (hd32) || map --mem /grub/super_grub2.iso (hd32)
map --hook
chainloader (hd32)
