--- edit by mod: this topic follows as split from this discussion: http://reboot.pro/to...n7-pe-bootdisk/

I did not assume previously, that this topic will lead to a swamp of warez(adapted) themes.

As known, I'm a friend of black / white.
Why a warez link cannot be overwritten by the board SW with 'sorry, not here'

Another member, which I won't name, has his site directly linking to a known warez release (which I will name as "Hiren's Boot CD") and there are hundreds of links from reboot.pro to this member's site, who also recently posted directly on the Forum - upon explicit provocation by yours truly :innocent: - a direct link to the the page dedicated to the above mentioned WAREZ release (to which BTW an entire section of this forum is dedicated).

I've never really understood why Hiren's Boot CD has a section at these forums. I don't know how long it's been there, but I was surprised to see it a month ago, or so.

But hey, let's find out how competitors in this contest do without involving a breach of copyright or EULA!

Because it has been "approved".

http://reboot.pro/to...related-topics/
http://reboot.pro/to...cs/#entry150326

given its defacto acceptance by the majority of the community

the loophole being obviously that possible competitors for the place of preferred (and defacto accepted) by the majority of the community are considered WAREZ, so I would call it a "defacto monopoly" an approach that has historically proved to be both very popular and a facilitator of progress, expecially in the fields connected to technology. :whistling:

But hey, let's find out how competitors in this contest do without involving a breach of copyright or EULA!

Sure :), and let's have one link here and not one there, in spots.

I was born modest; not all over, but in spots.

Microsoft do not object to anyone selling HBCD CDs on eBay... :dubbio:
They could easily ask eBay to block the selling of these but for some reason they don't object!

So far this Competition has proven to be very funny.

All entries are either off topic or illegal.
If this trend continues, i will surely win with this entry MakePE3!

btw, If you think to use Win7PE_SE as a base for your entry, forget it.
Win7PE_SE has been declared illegal on this board, as i just found out.

I bet ChrisR wishes he was Hiren right now!

I don't know :dubbio:, my friend :), if you are eligible to take part to the Competition :w00t: ;).
I seem to remember that UNwritten Rule #27.c :whistling: explicitly forbids taking part to the competition to any member whose family, relatives and friends are UNaware of Hiren's Boot CD :
http://reboot.pro/to...cs/#entry150352

This is obviously not fair, which, as said, is a good thing :) and in line with other trends emerging form this thread.

I think you will need to ask a "special permit" to take part to the Competition .....

Win7PE_SE has been declared illegal on this board, as i just found out.

Interesting, I'm the admin and didn't know that. Have you read these news in http://theonion.org/ by any chance? In either case, the project was deemed illegal in other forum sites like MSFN because of the WIM drivers being included, this was later corrected by the author.

Please don't confuse things. And as far I'm concerned about Hiren, the same rule about links applies. Just read the header of the forum section. With Hiren, we always had discussions about this matter and in most cases users had no notion it was possible to create their own boot disks. This way we have a chance of introducing them to ways of creating their works.

Attention: All previous replies up to this one were split from this discussion: http://reboot.pro/to...n7-pe-bootdisk/ onto its own topic to keep it in context.

The point (mine at least) was slightly different.

The general idea of boot-land was (at least once it was) to:

Booting: the final frontier. These are the voyages of the boot-land forum. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new ways to boot, to seek out new bootloaders and new drivers, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

And I had the idea that the current reboot.pro was a phoenix born from the ashes of the previous enterprise.

Once it has been declared as defacto accepted by the majority that WAREZ can be part of the equipment of the starship, and that the Federation has not prohibited their use, they should be strange, new WAREZ.

In 2012 using WAREZ based on Win98 or XP when there are newer ones based on Windows 7 seems not like being in accordance with the declared final frontier.

As you well know I personally won't have any kind of relation with Ferengi's :w00t: but it seems to be not fair to have trade agreements wiith just a few of them, and I am saying just this.

Fascinating! You're the admin here and don't know that you have banned links to Win7PE_SE? :dubbio:

Wow ignorance as excuse for breaking the law. That's new!
How about claiming that one was just following orders?

All previous replies up to this one were split from this discussion onto its own topic to keep it in context.

Fascinating! The only legal entry so far, Wimbs MakePE3, is declared invalid or at least rejected.
I think the air is seriously getting thin for anyone, who doesn't know, how to create a project from scratch.

Pssst... There's one Win7 based PE left to use, MultiPE_Leopard, but don't tell Nuno or he will disqualify it too!

I banned the links to theonion.org and associated sites. If Chris' work happens to be hosted on a place that verbally offends several members on this side of the net, you are complaining that I don't want to see that site too promoted around here.

That is quite different from your quote that I'm saying that a given project is "illegal" around here. To clarify, bring Win7PE_SE or whatever you wish to the competition as long as it follows the rules.

Wow ignorance as excuse for breaking the law. That's new!
How about claiming that one was just following orders?

See it as you prefer and I do the same. In the of the day, no court case nor complaint on the authorities will be made. None of us is a lawyer to explicitly say that any law was broken. None of us around here is the owner of the aforementioned software to be in a position to claim loss of revenue. The laws applicable in some countries of the posters (such as Vietnam and China) likely have no similar enforcement as seen in most of Europe (and even if it was..)

So, do your judgement as you please. Around here, the intention is to educate and raise awareness that other options exist. Only when someone really insists in ignoring what is said then other measures follow and I'm really not a fan of them.

Fascinating! The only legal entry so far, Wimbs MakePE3, is declared invalid or at least rejected.

There you go again. Because you mentioned makePE3 at an off-topic that found its way to a new topic now you're claiming that it was "rejected" from taking part in the competition.

As a matter of fact, Wonko and me also supported to make use of Wimb's work and ask his permission before your comment was made. And we kept this "in-topic". Have you by any chance got to read the posts? http://reboot.pro/to...sk/#entry163386

Pssst... There's one Win7 based PE left to use, MultiPE_Leopard, but don't tell Nuno or he will disqualify it too!

Boy, i'm getting way to old for this.

I banned the links to theonion.org and associated sites. If Chris' work happens to be hosted on a place that verbally offends several members on this side of the net, you are complaining that I don't want to see that site too promoted around here.

Up until now i thought or better hoped, that aside from some heated moments, people here were rather intelligent and logical.
That Chris project could be topic non grata, because of the little dispute you two had a while back, didn't even cross my mind.
btw. Please don't forget to protect also people in this post here: http://reboot.pro/to...7pe-se-release/
Thank you.

See it as you prefer and I do the same. In the of the day, no court case nor complaint on the authorities will be made. None of us is a lawyer to explicitly say that any law was broken. What about this post was off topic in your opinion?
With the exception of the little quip at the end, about Chris wishing to be Hiren, each and every sentence deals with the competition.

As a matter of fact, Wonko and me also supported to make use of Wimb's work and ask his permission before your comment was made.

That's why i found it so strange to find that entry into the competition thrown out.
Guess it must have been a rule 27c decision. ;)

I'm starting to see these series of comments as defamatory. Please remember to respect other members in this community. You talking with Nuno, a person. Not someone that you can just poke around as you please. Thanks.

Your decisions are highly unlogical or if they should follow any logic, than not any continues one.
Sorry if this offends you, but i'm not the only one, who sees it that way.

If you're angry at something with me, please accept my apologies. Otherwise, I see no reason for all this writing.

No, i'm not angry with you, you havn't offended me and i also have no axe to grind with you.

Small contradiction!

When you literally search through the project, you can find a couple of compliments like
  • stupid WinBuilder development
  • nazi like methods
  • etc.
That confirms Nuno's statement about the bakery

My logic remains the same, new problems need to be solved and I act accordingly with what can be done. Just wish I could do better but we can only tackle these problems on a best effort possible.

So what again was the problem with the prebuild PEs? That the competition asked for a project?

Don't share the ready-made ISO containing Windows files.

What about this post was off topic in your opinion?

The post is off-topic. If you differ, go ahead and interpret each line from the post and prove to me that it is somehow logically-sound-related to the topic in question (the competition) and then present some metrics, for example the percentage of in-topic part vs the off-topic part to convince me that your topic is better placed on the original location than on this one.

If you do all that, no problem. My opinion will change. Otherwise, it fits better here.

I reply because i like you!

You're mean to me but also like you. :)

Peter

Yep :), but you see, I often call myself (in alphabetical order):
  • cheap
  • grumpy
  • hairy reasoner
  • heartless bastard
  • old
  • stubborn
for several reasons (including mostly the fact that I actually am such).

Now, it may be not nice for anyone else to call me any of the above, but they would be somehow "authorized" by my own writings.

Hence...:
http://reboot.pro/to..._250#entry90564

You have to keep in mind, that the Stupid WinBuilder Developer (that's mainly me!) never will be able to publish a 110% Error Free Version!

The "Nazi" reference is instead in my opinion totally unacceptable :realmad: , even if coming out in the heat of a discussion and from an evidently rude and ill-mannered kid.

Sorry, unfortunately that is not the case my friend. Just look on the site that was barred from being linked here and even today you find there a script updated last month with violent comments w7pese.cwcodes.net/Projects/Win7PESE/VirtualTest/VMWare.script

More examples exist:

This is not a perfect world. None of those reading this topic (today) are saints. At some point we do have to draw a line about what we don't want around here and should not welcome on this part of the web.

Sure :), and their (war related) technologies have "fed" for two or three decades both the US and USSR technology and industries, expecially aircraft/missile/space ones.

But the reference is/was to "Nazi methods" which are/were in many occasions actually despicable.

In the version I have, the result of a TextPad search for "stupid" is...

Young people can be clever and immature at the same time. I wonder if these results were typed by a young person. :dubbio: If so, they grow up some day, hopefully... I mean, how would I know that? :loleverybody:

With google.ca, "Hiren's boot cd help" doesn't yield reboot.pro on the first page of results, so exposing those searchers to the alternatives here doesn't seem too likely. Personally, if I was moderating (no easy task, I'm sure!), the extent of any Hiren topics would be: "Downloading an .ISO with copyrighted material without license or permission cannot be supported here. These forums respect Microsoft (who make Windows, after all). Please use one of our fine WinBuilder projects to build your own amazing, live Windows CD, instead!" Instead, I'm happy not to be moderating it. :cheerleader:
