Hi,

Rencently I tryed to install Windows XP SP3 by mapping a ISO file with GRUB4DOS.

title Windows XP Pro SP3 [ENG] Setup (RamDisk)

map --mem /winvblock.ima (fd0)

map --mem /ISOs/WinXP.iso (0xff)

map --hook

chainloader (0xff)

By pressing F6 and loading WinVBlock the Setup-CD is recognized very well.

But then after the Text Mode setup phase I realized a little bit late that I needed being able to access the Setup CD after the first reboot, too.

I hoped that I could simply use the same Grub4Dos entry again and simply wait for "Press any key to boot from CD..." to time out and then boot from first hard disk, but that did not work.

Then I tried several different other Grub commands to map the CD image again and then boot from first (real) hard disk - but none worked...

Has anyone had success with installing XP from an ISO file on a physical HD (opposed to installing it to an virtual hard disk image file like IMG_XP does)?

I've now got the setup working with FiraDisk.

However the Windows XP Setup insists on assigning the system drive a different drive letter then C:
Is there any trick to circumvent this?

Why does it matter? It will be C: when it boots to Windows later on...?
