Hey guys this is my first Hello although I already posted some questions in the futures.

First of all this Forum has the best community, very knowledgeable and responsive members make this place very magical, the founders and contributors should feel proud!

I was wondering if there's a section where general IT questions can be asked..

Cheers!!
Bilo

Hi bil0
Hello back at you.
Noticed you haven't had any responses to:
"if there's a section where general IT questions can be asked."
That's a very broad topic !.
If you can you be more specific and narrow your inquiries to
a specific IT topic or area of your interest, I'm sure there
are some threads you could be pointed to, or even some members
that would be more than glad to help, "myself included".
In the off chance that none of the above would apply to your situation(s),
New threads are always welcomed. Perhaps the following will help
demonstrate how broad it can be.
(i.e.) New Topic Titles:
General IT questions (DNS)
General IT questions (DHCP)
General IT questions (IPV6)
General IT questions (Cabling)
General IT questions (Shares)
General IT questions (IEEE 802.1x)
General IT questions (QoS)
General IT questions (PXE)
General IT questions (Samba Shares)
General IT questions (Password Protecting)
General IT questions (CSMA/CD)
General IT questions (Bride/Router/GW)
General IT questions (MAC layer protocol)
General IT questions (ICMP)
General IT questions (Telnet)
etc,etc.
Perhaps some Google Fu might be beneficial
(example)
"IPv6 Gateway" site:reboot.pro
MAC AND PXE site:reboot.pro
timing AND 72 AND 390 site:fordification.com

Note: Do not include a space between the site: and the domain.
You can use many of the search operators in conjunction with the basic search operators
+, -, OR, " "
windows security -site:microsoft.com = find information on Windows security from all sites
except microsoft.com You can also restrict your results to a site or domain through the
domains selector on the Advanced Search page.

P.S.
I would like to learn how to do this though That would be a neat trick.

Hey guys this is my first Hello although I already posted some questions in the futures.

Just funnin' You!

Jeezzz... I meant to say "in the past", I was so busy that day half of my brain was doing other things while I was composing the thread.

First of all thank you for the reply RoyM, you rock! Actually when I said "general IT questions" I really meant general, not specific technical questions.

Here is the question I have, and maybe you can help me find the best section for it:

I have hundreds of servers, VMs and other physical equipment that I lend to users for a specific period of time.
Currently I'm managing everything using an excel sheet I created myself, but I would love to have some features such as notifications when a resource is about to expire, an option to extend, and all type of useful management features that will have me better allocate resources.

Can anyone recommend a service or software that can do that?

Thanks :victory:

***** For some pay services:Google for: remote it management software **********************

ServiceDesk Plus 8.1 ITIL Ready Help Desk Software with Asset Management
http://www.manageeng...CFSkGRQodB3IAKQ
NetSupport Manager - Remote Control http://www.netsupportmanager.com/
www.kaseya.com/
www.sysaid.com/
www.n-able.com/

*********************************************************************************************
A simpler/free solution would be to send an email to yourself + client from the asset
via .cmd/batch file started from a scheduled task just prior to expiration.
You could then use LogMeIn Free to make necessary changes, or just use RASMAN
Of course your needs may vary depending on what you need to accomplish.

*********************************************************************************************
LogMeIn Pro, LogMeIn Free, LogMeIn Hamachi to remote computers.
https://secure.logme...deployment.aspx

******* Email from cmd prompt ***************************************************************

See here for some examples
http://www.robvander...e.com/email.php

Command line e-mail programs:
Blat: Send mail via SMTP. Free
http://sourceforge.net/projects/blat
GBMailer: Command-line mailer. GPL
http://www.gboban.com/
MailSend: Command-line Internet mailer. Shareware
http://www.mailsend-online.com/
GetMail: Receive mail through POP3. Free
http://pages.interlo...on/getmail.html

If you use an Exchange mail server, consider using MAPISEND
from the Exchange Resource Kit for command line mailing.

Mozilla Thunderbird users can compose messages on the command line,
similar to the "mailto:" technique, but including attachments, using its -compose switch.

GUI to dynamically generate unattended e-mail:

Use Fileaze to create tasks that include anything from capturing web pages to sending files
per e-mail, and from compressing to encrypting, plus anything that can be run from
a "normal" command line.

Unless it's about booting, boot methods, or tutorials and news,
Your rather limited on this forum for general IT questions.
Perhaps you've already found the correct place?.

Fantastic suggestion Max_Real Qnx

I sometimes forget about http://tech.reboot.pro/
as I still suffer from Stack overflow at line: 1822, using IE on an old laptop.

They also have a forum right up your alley bil0
"Web Browser & General Internet/Networking Discussion"

Time to upgrade my browser I see.
Thanks Max

firstly HELLO.

I have been using WinBuilder a few years now although I am no expert.

one thing I would like to know is why when I have downloaded some of the packages to use, do they contain virus infection? It is most annoying having to remove the bad files.

I tryed the following download : nettyPE_2011_11_07.zip
It made AVG go ping around "hiderun_x86" and "hiderun_x64"
