How do i find out which fonts a program requires?

Those are the easy ones to fix.
But there is also that other kind. The kind that does not throw any error, but just looks wrong.
Is there a way to read the required fonts from a exe or dll?

As far as i remember, it works something like this.
Program requests font X by the OS (fontmanager?), OS checks it's font database and returns eighter the requested font or, if not available, a font it considers the best available replacement. No idea, how this best replacement feature works exactly.
Since Windows manages the fonts, i doubt that a file or registry request is actually issued by the program itself.
