Hello,
I was trying to install windows 7 in my Samsung G2 External HD,

Using NT6.X Fast installer I got this error:

Error restoring image.

A required privilege is not held by the client.

I'm using this from a Windows 7 64bits installation.

Can someone help me?

Regards,
Pablo.-

Hello Pablo and welcome :)

Are you using the updated setup for SP1?

I don't get that error and the setup is pretty straightforward. Walk us through exactly what you're doing. Step by step, how you're formatting the drive, how many partitions, what source you're using etc. Tell us what happens each step of the way until you get the error ;)

Here the steps that I follow:

Open diskpart

Select disk 1 ( the External HDD )

clean

create partition primary
format fs=ntfs quick
active
assign
exit

I downloaded the WAIK files from this forum and the imagex, bootsect and bcdboot from my Windows AIK installation folder.

The install.wim file that I'm using is from my Windows 7 Home Premium 64bits DVD, I copied the file to my desktop.

I run installer.cmd as an administrator.

Selected the install.wim file

Selected the target drive F as target ( My external hdd )

Selected the boot target drive F ( I'm going to use this in another PC so, the boot needs to be in the external HDD also )

Default windows installation Drive letter ( C )

Press enter.

Started the process,

The Screen shows [0%] applying process.

Stay there for 5 seconds and the error appears.

Here is the link to download the WAIK files that I'm using:

Use this package so we're on the same page http://www.mediafire...448skyb37zw26v0

I just tried with 32 bit source without issue, now I'll try with 64 bit like you.

Using that file I'm getting a GLE=97 error.

And also it say that my external disk have less than 10GB free when it was just formated and 298GB are free.

Pablo.-

64 bit source (Ultimate) works fine. Obviously, something is wrong with your USB drive formatting, where do you see 10GB free?

All I see in NT6FastInstSP1 output is:

I just fixed the 10GB error formatting the disk again.

Now I'm only getting that GLE=97 error: Error restoring image.

Trying to restore the image using directly imagex results in the next error message:

Error restoring the image.
A required privilege is not held by the client.

What should I try now?

Do you have full admin rights on this computer? Turn off UAC, Defender or any AV that might be interfering.

Start simple, make sure the format is correct. Do you have a disk editor/manager you feel comfortable with? You need to completely wipe the drive (all data is lost) and re-partition from scratch. 40GB should be plenty for Win 7 install (first/primary/active partition). There may be some proprietary formatting from the manufacturer, hidden drives etc. that needs to be removed.

Your source should be standard, unmodified M$ image, mounted and copied to folder on hard drive.

install windows 7 in my Samsung G2 External HD

Does this drive uses 4kb sectors?

And also it say that my external disk have less than 10GB free when it was just formated and 298GB are free.

Can you try another USB hard disk?
