Now you may think that my Firefox installation is botched, seeing that on other PCs it does work with Firefox 12, but on every other website my home PC works just fine. I can log in to any other forum (and there are lots of forums with varying technologies that I occasionally use), I can use any webshop for purchasing stuff, and I can also do online banking np. So why does the login window of reboot.pro no longer work on my system?

The first thing is clearing the cache of the browser and then retry.
On my side I an trying with Firefox 11 and it works as intended. I can login and logout without any issues or memorized passwords.
I also suggest trying out to access the site from a different computer and check out the result.
Good luck!

If doesn't work after clearing cache, you can check if you have either javascript disabled or ajax plugin not installed. You could also check with another browser that doesn't need plugins, like Chrome.

I know what you mean with IE8, this theme appears broken on that version of IE albeit it looks as intended on version 9 and above.
Use this link to login from IE8: http://reboot.pro/in...l§ion=login

Needless to say that Javascript is not disabled, otherwise I would hardly not having problems with other websites. I never heard of an Ajax plugin though. What is it and why would I need it?

Using IE8, no matter the window zoom nor screen resolution, the "sign in" link cannot be seen.
With <ctrl>+<f>, IE8 can find the exact text of the link, but there is no simple way for the user to select the "sign in" link.
There are alternative ways to get to the "sign in" page, but no simple way to show the unique link on the main homepage.
In IE8, selecting "Page" -> "Style" -> "No Style", the "Sign in" link should be clearly seen (near "f" "t" over the left upper side of the main homepage). After the log in, the user is able to revert back to the normal page style.
Using the normal page style in IE8, it seems that the "Create Account" link (well, its "box") is "too big" (both horizontally and vertically), so even changing the text size, window zoom or screen resolution, the "sign in" link is never seen. My guess is that after changing the horizontal and vertical sizes and/or positions of "f", "t" and "Create Acount" boxes, the "Sign in" link should be seen also in Normal Page Style.
As I said, there are additional alternative ways to get there, but I think the "Sign in" link should be clearly seen with no workarounds, under as many web browsers as possible.
BTW, in IE8 the site behaves "better" (but anyway not "good enough" IMHO) in "IE Compatibility View" than in the normal default view. This is independent of the above mentioned issue and workaround.
HTH.

I do believe that it's View > Style > No Style
That's the only way I can logon at work.

From IE's menu, it's "View" -> "Style". If the menu is not seen, press <ALT>.
From IE's "command bar" ("Page", "Safety", "Tools", and several icons with frequently used functions) it's "Page" -> "Style".
In both cases the function and its consequences are the same.
BTW, I am also still using the same method, as the "sign in" link can't be seen.

For a newcomer, searching for some "ip board theme" (or any other theme for that matter) is not easy, not clear, and a complete waste of time.
A "yet-to-be-sign-in" user doesn't search for "some alternative and unavailable board theme". Such user should be able to sign in ("page" or "view" -> "style" -> "no style" -> "sign in" as simplest workaround) and THEN set the relevant personal preferences (which will never affect it before signing in anyway).
Since the intention was to make this workaround easy and simple for newcomers, lets end this topic now.
