What the heck is a Thunker Window?
Posted 24 May 2012 - 11:22 PM
The Twain.log says: TWAIN_32.DLL - MESSAGE - CTwunk ::CloseServer - Why Can't We Find The Thunker Window?
Though this is an excellent question, it does not really help at all.
I already googled me a thunker , but noone seems to know:
A.) what the heck a Thunker Window is and even less
B.) which file or service should provide it.

WIA On TWAIN

Twain and WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) don't work too well together
try going to the Control Panel, Admin Tools, Services... set WIA to
Manual... reboot the PC then try again.

TWAIN is dependant on WIA these days, as Windows uses WIA exclusivly internally and provides a translation from WIA to TWAIN only for programs who need it.
My tests have shown, that WIA works fine and TWAIN seems to do so too. But for some reason, the two fail to connect.
The chains looks like this right now:
Program - TWAIN || WIA - Driver - Device
Program - WIA - Driver - Device

So far i confiremed, that the device, the driver and WIA work, by accessing the device via a program which uses WIA, to do so.
I also confirmed, by use of Dependency Walker, that a program using the TWAIN interface will get as far as the *device*.ds file, which is the file, that should now bridge over to WIA and the device.
But this doesn't happen. According to the log, because of the mysterious Thunker window being a miss.
I don't know and can't even guess, if there's a file, a folder, a service or a registry entry missing, cause i get no error messages whatsoever, with any program. Even programs designed for testing TWAIN, return nothing, except for the nonsense question.

Though my hardware works fine in XP, it did also not work on a installed Win7.
It installed fine, gave no errors, WIA is available TWAIN is not.
