Has anyone working USB-Cam in Win7PE_SE?
Posted 28 April 2012 - 11:30 AM
Device manager says my USB-Cam should work fine, but no application seems to find it.
Now i'm a bit at a loss, who lies here.

Please be aware, that this is still a work in progress and not finished yet. In my tests, it worked with 7 out of 8 Webcam applications.
I would be very interested in your feedback.

I use ChrisR's Win7PE_SE__20120416 project,
i have tried only with Windows7 x86 en-US Ultimate RTM (SP0) source.
At build time i integrate my drivers using 'Win7PE_SEDriversDriver Integration' script,
so i copy the files
into '%GlobalTemplates%Drivers_x86' folder.
In the running PE download the installer
and install it.
For me the webcam seems work in Skype.
cam.7z 114.27KB 34 downloads

For me importing 'enum_2.reg' (at build time!) do the trick

Will remove WMP from build and check Skype again.

You're doing the exact same thing, i do.
Exception the import of the enum keys. I don't do that.
What is it needed for? / What does it improve?

(or my 'wcam.script' is too specific for my hardware?)

I simply include WMP and WIA-STI-Twain in my build, install my camera drivers and skype works fine.
If your questions was, if my cam would work with your drivers? No it doesn't, my cam is not compatible with M$ default drivers.
What i do not understand at all is, how do you use section [t]? I can't find a call to it, from [Process].
Also a little hint:
In Win7PE_SE one can't 'preinstall' drivers like in PE1 builds, by simply copying the files to their final locations. Because Win7PE_SE has no tool to remove the copy commands from the inf files. Hence install of the driver will fail.
I guess you circumvented the installation of the drivers via inf by writing the enum keys directly into the registry.

i don't use section [t]
in my test i found that
while in the running PE I can install my webcam's driver,
but without that 'enum_2.reg' i simply can not get video in Skype
regardless i use the section [t] or not (or regardless i use wmp.script or not)
(also i tried to add many registry entries and files, too - without any success)

This does not give you a working driver in Win7PE_SE!
You always have to copy the driver folder from driverstore to driverstore.
Then you can omit the enum entries and your script will be more universal.

The web-cam programs, i used for testing, have there much higher requirements.
Including in Skype.script the sti_ci.dll, would remove a little nuisance, but that's all.

Exactly where can i find that 'Skype.script' you are refering to?
