I'm getting increasingly frustrated over an error that's preventing my Win7PE build from completing. WinBuilder seems to be having problems unmounting the Wim files using ImageX. This is during the "Finalize > 3 - Postconfig" step. I get an error message saying:

"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."

followed by:

"C:....Win7PE_SESourceInstallWimSrc Can not be Unmounted or there are files in folder !!! Exiting..."

I've searched the forum and there seems to be a number of people who previously encountered this problem, but there doesn't seem to be any clear solution to it. And honestly, some of the typos and short-hand speech in the discussion threads make it extremely difficult to follow. I'm new to Win7PE and the cryptic error messages are not helping me solve this.

Potentially relevant information:
Host OS: Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64
Source: Winodws 7 Professional x86 (DVD source copied to HDD, "SP0" - without SP1)

try to use the "extract wim folders" script (under utils). With that script I got rid of several mounting problems

Hi PartEleven,

From your log and what you should have:

Optimizations Version[4] ( ) 1.535 seconds --> Optimizations Version[10]
TrimDownPE Version[2] ( ) 1.981 seconds --> TrimDownPE Version[2]
1 - Pins Version[3] ( ) 0.975 seconds --> 1 - Pins Version[7]
3 - PostConfig Version[18] ( ) 518.165 seconds --> 3 - PostConfig Version[23]

I think you keep an old folder Finalize in Your project with some old script (ProjectsWin7PE_SEFinalize).
the folder was renamed, a while ago already in Finals.
You should have the two folders, if this is in fact the case, please removes the folder Finalize.

Also, you can remove in Opera_USB.script and Opera_USB_File.script in ProjectsWin7PE_SEAppsNetwork,
there are now Opera_v11_saydin77.script and Opera_v11_saydin77_File.script instead.

try to use the "extract wim folders" script (under utils). With that script I got rid of several mounting problems

Indeed, the best workaround to all the mysteries of MS wimmount drivers for mount/unmount wim file :)
but here, I think this is the version that causes the problem.

:cheers:

The extra project folder (Finals) is due to downloading the full (?) Win7PE_SE file I suppose? I believe the duplicate project folder is the result of trying to follow the irongeek.com guide which told me to download the project files from the download tab in WinBuilder. Regardless, that's not the source of problem. Since the first post, I have tried:

1. Removing duplicate Finals folder
2. Using the updated SP1-U Windows 7 Pro x86 iso obtained from Digital River

Still getting the same problem. I'll try extracting the wim files, but if that doesn't work I'm going to go ahead and give up on this. As nice as Win7PE is, it's too frustrating for the average end-user and there's too many points where problems can occur with no real solution.

The error on the your first build, with win7 SP0, is really related to the old folder Finalize with incompatible versions of script. (solved for you now)
for information, this old folder comes from an old Win7pese package.

for the second test:
Make your Build with win7 sp0 which use MS wimfltr driver, more stable but incompatible with SP1.
The new Win7 drivers, wimmount, is sometimes capricious and it is really difficult to help and find the solution (that is why there is a lot of post about mount/unmount issues).

With SP1, if you have any problem related to mount/unmount wim file, please try the "Extracted_Wim_Folders," in utils folder.
It is easy, and your future build will be reliable and faster, but it request disk space (~8Gb) and a short time the first time for the extraction.

1. Removing duplicate Finals folder

Unsure of your answer, sorry for my english if you misunderstood.
Retains Finals folder and deletes the folder Finalize.

I guess a lot of the confusion comes from a combination of novice users who don't know what's really going on and seasoned developers who can't be expected to know every individual hostOS/source combination to troubleshoot specific issues. Thanks for your patience and advice, ChrisR. I've since solved my problem, but I'm unsure of how or why it works. I'll post it here just so other people reading this can have a better idea of what to do.

1. I changed my source from Windows 7 Professional x86 "SP0" to the new updated iso from Digial River (Windows 7 Professional x86 SP1-U).
2. Completely deleted the projects folder and re-downloaded all project files using the download tab in WinBuilder.

I'm guessing that #2 was the cause of my problems, since my project folder contained a combination of scripts from the archive file in the Win7PE SE release thread and the downloaded ones. I'm not even sure if I am using the most updated scripts, but so far it is working. Now my question is WHY is there a project folder (with scripts) included with the release pack? And then the very same thread directs new users to the irongeek.com guide which tells you to download scripts using the WinBuilder download tab. As a new user I had no idea what I was doing and was blindly following directions. Incorrect directions which led me to a lot of confusion and frustration. I suggest that the release thread be revised to avoid this problem.

Hi PartEleven,

Happy that it works now B)
and thanks for your feedback

I suggest that the release thread be revised to avoid this problem.

You're right, but I have trouble to write because of my English ;)
A Faqs with Question/Answers would be nice with the addition of few tricks or/and a good video.
