Hello,

A new place is available to upload temporary files. This service can be used for developers to quickly exchange files between themselves and/or users to upload their log files for developers take a quick look.

The service is reachable at http://temp.reboot.pro

To upload files, just drag and drop them inside the window. It is a fully featured explorer window made in Ajax. Bandwidth is restricted to 5Gb a month and disk space to 100Mb.

Every two days the contents of the public folder will be erased completely. The idea is to ease sharing files without need to go through other temporary hosts that are often blocked from work internet access.

Yes, it works very well.
I've done some tests.
Obviously, only logged in members can upload and remove files.
But can they only remove their own files or anybody else's?

Hi, this is the distribution of ranks per post count.

Silver Member 500
Gold Member 1000
Platinum Member 2500
Platinum Member 7000
Platinum Member 8000

Platinum Member 20000
Platinum Member 30000
Platinum Member 40000
Platinum Member 50000

After 2500, the title remains the same as "Platinum". The only difference is the number of stars that will get complete once a member reaches 10k. After that number the step value is counted from 10k on 10k. At the moment, I believe that only PSC has passed over 10k: http://reboot.pro/15252/

@Edborg, everyone can upload or download files from the service. I am still working to improve some details, however the intention is that people can simply share temporary files without need for attachments or other temporary host sites.

Be careful!
When uploading a file with a name that already exists, the old one is overwritten without warning.
This could lead to errors or misunderstanding when quickly exchanging files.
One should make sure he always uses specific names (no temp, mylog, mytest, etc.)

Well, let's trust that the two parties exchanging files understand the limitations of this service. It is just a box to place files, for better hosting then it is recommended to just register a subdomain and use FTP.

Folders can also be created to separate files or a given user might look at the time stamp of last change. In either case, it gets completely wiped off every two days.

Do alot of 3 year olds join reboot.pro, who can't yet read the number of posts below the user picture?

Besides, the fact that someone, with just 100 posts ranks at 50% of someone with 6999 post, makes the whole thing redicilous.

The Temporary File Host service has hopefully just come in very handy - thats assuming the recipient gets to it within the next two days! A welcome addition. Thanks.

I would second TheHive's suggestion to add it to the forum's tab menu thingy - that's if the feature is kept.

Sounds like a good suggestion indeed. I will get the fusion menu plugin: http://community.inv...13-fusion-menu/ This plugin allows configuring the links on the top.

The temp storage is still not complete but I do hope it can help developers/users exchange files without much hassle.

Is it possible that I added something, and the two days are fullfilled. Then my file is deleted after some minutes?

What about a "purge on demand". It does not automagically delete 2 days aged files.
It looks for empty space. If there is not enough space, it deletes only the oldest files (if older than 2 days ??).

My worry is what happens if someone uploads a bad/malicious file and the two days ensure that no files (good or bad) stay there for too long. I believe that if a file is worth being kept then it is better to place it elsewhere.

As you mention, it is not nice that someone places the file there and little after an hour it is deleted.

Any volunteers for the challenge of adding up some javascript or similar way to present a count down of how long is missing until the next wipe out?

Another worry could be someone uploading illegal files, which breaks EULA.

We have clamwin installed on the system. However, php exec was removed.

So an option is calling the virustotal to ask their opinion about a given file: https://www.virustot...ion/public-api/

The API allows to do that from PHP.


@Sherlock, Megaupload is a particular case. Rest assured that there was a lot more going behind scenes than just files. There will be no legal issues pointed at our way, we are under the protection of EU law that typically abides to common good sense.
