Memory mapping, read speed.

I'm using a old P4 + 845G + ATA100 system now ( WD has not replaced my RMAed SATA HDD even after 8 weeks ! ). Memory mapping off the HDD seems really slow, almost like using a USB 2.0 UFD on my newer system.

Many BIOSes do not use DMA for disk read/write for the int 13h BIOS interface (which is what grub4dos uses) and this can cause slow boot speeds - some only use USB 1.0 speeds for UFD access which will cause slow UFD booting.
Try adding Plop to your grub4dos menu and then run Plop and pick the USB device to boot from in the Plop Menu, then in the grub4dos menu choose the ISO file again and see if it is faster (as has been explained to you in previous posts).

BIOS DMA int 13h
if only there is :
1. a Motherboard with opensource BIOS
2. SDCARD BIOS attached on the Board...
Life would be easyer
